Bio Photo Remember the Past ~ Imagine the Future

Volunteer: by definition means "a person who performs a service willingly and without pay." That is what its all about here on Find A Grave; volunteers giving freely of their time and resources. Yes, some have more time than others; more time to add more names, find more info and do more research, but that does not diminish the importance of the contributor who only has time to add just basic names. Sometimes its the smallest clue that brings the biggest results.

PLEASE try to remember because we are dedicated "Gravers" we have stomped through mud puddles, walked for miles, swatted mosquitoes, got stung by fire ants, stood out in 105 degree summer sun and/or froze our rear off on a cold & frosty winter morning - all to get that perfect photo (at our time & expense) others have requested from some remote cemetery out in the "boonies". So please, instead of complaining to us that we misspelled your loved ones name on the memorial pg we made for them (we are human, we all make mistakes, and we are more than happy to correct our typos), please consider how wonderful it would be for us to hear an occasional "thank you for your efforts."

Me, I volunteer in any area where I have the resource material to do so. My primary interest is in Angelina, Llano, Mason, Milam & Williamson counties but I'll research any that I can.

NOTE-NOTE-NOTE: I am one of many contributors who no longer (knowingly) links to "UNKNOWN" BURIALS. Please try to discover the final disposition before making an entry.
***********************************
NOTE: Per the Find A Grave guidelines, I do not post photos which I did not take, or have personal ownership of, or permission to use - that means newspaper obit photos. IF I post an obit photo in the future it means I knew the person or family.(updated Oct 2012)

About Find A Grave: if you are new to Find A Grave (1) PLEASE read the FAQ section BEFORE you start asking for transfers or sending suggestions, corrections, additions, comments, etc. And when you do send your comments/requests (2) PLEASE use the "edit" tab found on each memorial pg to send your msg. Use of the edit tab takes us straight to the name in question and cuts down on mistakes. And (3) Unless I know you and know your work, PLEASE state the source (or reason) for the change/addition in the info (death certificate, obit, census, family Bible, personal knowledge, etc) I know I sometimes forget to add these to my SAC's, so if you need to know where I got my info, just ask me (for me, most will be from TXDC's or the census)

ABOUT MY PERSONAL FAMILY PHOTOS: you DO NOT have permission to take/use any of my personal family photos, period! (unless I personally tell you its ok) If you have interest in any of my personal family lines, contact me, tell me who you are and what your interest in my family names is.

ABOUT THE TOMBSTONE PHOTOS I ADD: if they are your family and you wish to add them to your family trees, yes you may do so, BUT remember to give credit where credit is due and note that you found it on Find A Grave "courtesy of Deb in Angelina Co". On the other hand, you DO NOT have permission to take & re-post my photos from other websites, or those here on Find A Grave, under your name as if you were the photographer. Whether good, bad, old, or new, I recognize my own photos. It's not about "owning", it's about giving another person the credit for the effort they went to, to gather & post data for the benefit of those who are searching for family. Thank you!

Names of personal interest to me (for one reason or another) are too many to list, but my main line of research interests are in surnames: Alvis, Baugh, Collins, Coursey, Leslie, Hammond, Mankins, Moore, Mott, Murphy, Roberts, Secrest, Sharp, and numerous names associated with those families.

Other surnames of interest are: Camp, Broomfield, Gallion, Kendrick, Keith, Pitts, Martin, Sunday, Tull/Tullos and those associated with them.

RE: Sheridan Selman
I will check with Tresa as well with other relatives to see if they know anything about her.

RE: Winny Price suggested edit
Mea culpa. You are right. She is the daughter of Meshach, whose last name I've seen spelled Red and Redd. I'm just pulling the edit.

Thanks Deb I have been so busy..I have no time...maybe in August..I can look at a few things...I always have so many names and relations and cousins and on and on.
I am trying to get to the older family in MS and who knew the family in South Carolina before they moved to MS in 1830.

RE: Nila Selman
One of Tresa's cousins had said that she was buried there. If she is not, then I have no clue as to where she might be. Apparently, close relatives to Tresa did not attend the funeral, so no one that we have been able can say for sure.

RE: Selman's in Angelina County, TX
It is where his name is listed in the Texas Birth index. Neither of the surviving siblings say they know anything about him, but the Index shows he was born the same day as Sheridan and to the same parents, the father's name was Alvie Selman as well.

Selman's in Angelina County, TX
Deb,

I have noticed your extensive work on the Angelina County Cemeteries. My wife is a Selman from Angelina County, and her mother as well as many other relatives (Berry, Selman, McCoy, Brookshire, etc.) are buried in the Berry Cemetery. we no longer live in the state, but I was hoping that you had some information to shed light on some questions that we have. Sheridan and his second wife Nila are buried at Berry Cemetery, but there is no record for them here on Find-A-Grave. Are their missing graves from that cemetery? And we have records for a Alvie Lee Selman, who was a twin to the recently departed Spencer Selman, but can not find anything other than a birth certificate for him, and can not find any other records. DO you have any info on him?

RE: Ethel Lee Parks Johnson
Debbie,

It is you who I need to thank for gathering the information to correct my blunder.

I try real hard to confirm the information with relatives before making the connections on Find A Grave, but every once in awhile a correction is in order.

Please relay my apologies to your contact for my mistake.

Thank you,

Vanessa

Ethel Lee Parks Johnson
Debbie,

I just received a message that Ethel Lee Parks Johnson was the daughter of Snow Edwards.

May I ask if you have something different?

Thank you,

Vanessa

Edward Family
Debbie,

I just found out that my contact is out of the state.

However, I sent a message two days ago to another contact for confirmation.

What I do know for sure is the following children belong to Manervie Holman and the right Lonnie B. Edwards.

It makes more sense that Manervie Holman would be connected to the Lonnie Edwards that is buried at Saint Luke since Manervie is also at Saint Luke.

I'd say follow your contacts information. Thank you!
