After moving around the country for 38 years, I moved home to Wilkes County, North Carolina where I grew up. I have been searching for my ancestors for over 50 years now. A lot of the first settlers in this area (Wilkes) migrated on to Georgia, Tennessee, Missouri and many other states. I am a 6th generation descendant of Sarah Boone, the sister to Daniel Boone.

I live within 3-5 miles of the following Baptist Church Cemeteries in the county: Big Ivy, Yellow Hill, Blue Ridge, New Hope and White Oak. Stony Hill is just up the road and the Lenderman-Powell Family Cemetery is on our property. My Great-Grandmother Cornelia Ann Owens Ashley Powell is buried in this cemetery along with her second husband William Holland "Bill" Powell and his Mother Nancy Carolina McGee Powell Mikeal (Nancy is also my Great-Grandmother Cynthia Ann McGee Cardwell's sister.)

In addition to Boone, my other surnames are: Spears, Hamby, Dillard, Cardwell, Ashley, Owens, McGee, Church, Shepherd, Cartwright, Greer and Woodie to name a few.

My grandmother told me when I was growing up ... how do you know where you are going, if you don't know where you have been... I have been chasing those ancestors ever since.
