|Billie Jasper||Curly Lee "Curly" Chalker|
Thank you for maintaining the memorial for Curly Chalker. My father took steel guitar lessons from him in Las Vegas where they both lived. Searches for him in Findagrave.com don't always work. I was searching in the Famous area first. It seems like he should have a star for famous since he played on Hee Haw for 18 years and is in The Steel Guitar Players Hall of Fame. I heard he was known as the worlds best jazz steel guitarist. Just thinking...

You might want to check out Cherokee Indians - research + a genealogy research and information page about Cherokee's on Facebook as far as this person being Cherokee. There does not seem to be any documentation that Winny Winola Lowry Wood was Cherokee. This page is very thorough.
I think we have communicated in the past. I came across this picture of Winoia it was very excited to see it. She would be my four times great-grandmother her son George Washington wood is my direct ancestor and his son Eli Harrison was my great-great-grandfather. I had a DNA test done through ancestry.com but they said I had absolutely no Native American DNA which I thought was odd because I had several 4X great grandparents that were Native American and my mother's paternal grandfather claim to be Cherokee Indian and he certainly looks like it in the pictures I've seen of him I never knew him he died about 9 years before I was born. I've come across some other people through ancestry that were related to my grandma Nelly who was Eli's daughter and knew her and her husband John Abbott. I never knew him he died before I was born Billy died when I was two and a half so I don't remember her. Well like I said I don't know if you remember me or not it's been awhile

He was a steel guitar's best friend, wasn't he?? Thank you for your inquiry - I don't perform anymore. If I do, it's totally unexpected and also a shock to me as well. I think I have some 45's still around. I don't own a record player, so I haven't heard it in quite a while. Sweet time in my life.
