Check out Carl Braatz in Cedar Hill cemetery in Suitland, Md - F.A.G. ID # 96241199 - you will like this fellow a lot...leave some flowers too!

Note: any reference to the city of Washington versus the county of Washington, both of which were used in the early days of the District of Columbia (D.C.) will be omitted on my memorials or any requests to alter them since the residence of the deceased and/or the actual place of death would also have to be known and before 1850 or so. The city was divided into several parts when drawn up and laid out in the 1790s but these distinctions were dropped long before 1850. There is a need for some memorials of an early date to have this but for most others it is not accurate any longer. All are just Washington, D.C.

I just wanted to let you know that your act of simple kindness, in making this memorial - complete with a nice photo - resulted in no small amount of closure for the subject's descendants.

After an unfortunate event, around 1930, Archie left his family in Buffalo, NY, and went to Washington DC, where he was believed to have worked at the Navy yard. It sounds like he returned to visit occasionally, but ultimately word reached them that he had died - YEARS after the fact. They didn't know exactly when he died, or where he was buried.

I wasn't 100% sure if this was him at first, because the birth year on the marker is off (he was born 04NOV1877, not in 1878, so they probably got the birth year by subtracting his age), but then added some Social Security Application records, and he showed up (exact name, birth date, and birth place) with the death date of 13SEP1949! It HAS to be him.

My wife's uncle was excited to learn what had happened to his grandfather; I only wish my father-in-law would have lived a bit longer so he could have found out, too. He was the only one of my daughters gt-gt grandparents who we hadn't known where they were buried.

Many thanks!!

Parrans, Dukes, et al - Calvert Co, MD

Thank you for your prompt response to my suggested edits. These are all my ancestors, members of the "Calvert Clan", my direct lineage through the Hellen family, who all intermarried for generations, and I am trying to record all the connections as best as possible from years of research.

Very much appreciated...and likely several more to follow.
