Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am working on entering all graves in the Rhinebeck Cemetery that are listed in the two comprehensive books compiled by Arthur C.M. Kelly of Kinship, Rhinebeck, NY

- Rhinebeck, New York : death records of the 18th and 19th centuries by Arthur C.M. Kelly.

- Rhinebeck Association Cemetery : 20th century deaths / transcribed and indexed by Arthur C. M. Kelly.

Both of these books correct errors that are found an older publication of the cemetery records - Old gravestones of Dutchess County, New York / nineteen thousand inscriptions collected and edited by J. Wilson Poucher, M. D. and Helen Wilkison Reynolds.

As I work my way around the cemetery I am photographing as many headstones that I can find. I am also adding any interments that are not listed in the Kelly book, basically those after 1999.

I have two databases of interment records for the Rhinebeck Cemetery. I will be adding some of this information to existing records and adding records for those who are interred but who do not have a headstone.

I am happy to transfer management of any record not in my family. Photos can be copied freely for private use.

Thank you for finding the duplication of memorials. You are welcome to have any contents on the page I set up and I will delete the memorial tomorrow.

RE: Ethel Doxon Arverill
You're welcome. I was a little confused when I found her listed twice for Rhinebeck Cemetery, once as a Dixon and once as an Averill!

William H. Baker duplicate
Unfortunately I added this because the people who made the original refuse to add any of my edits to theirs and he is a relative so I had to make an extra one to create links sadly.

RE: Dan Pond
Hi Beverly,
I hope we all do what feels right to us. That's important. And I'm certainly not policing other contributors. But things get pretty tense and sometimes very hostile when I have to write to someone and say, "Please delete your memorial that's hanging out there in cyberspace because I found the actual burial." Invariably I get a message back saying, "My memorial predates yours and yours is a duplicate, so it should be deleted." But find-a-grave doesn't agree with that, and so, in my experience, the memorial for the actual burial has always prevailed over the "unknown." I'm not worried, then, about losing my hard work, but I don't like the wear and tear of battling, and nine times out of ten that's what it comes down to.
That being said, I also have a couple of burials unknown (two I think) among my memorials, because family information and every record I could find (except a burial record or gravestone) supports the location. Those memorials were created years ago and I'm not deleting them, but I no longer create "unknowns" because that would be sheer hypocrisy.
Anyway, thanks for understanding and being so cordial.

Dan Pond
Hi Beverly,

I'm going to decline the edit to link Dan Pond with Thankful Frisbee Pond (his mother) because I do not wish to link my memorials with memorials for people whose burials are unknown. Creating such memorials is against find-a-grave guidelines. Even more importantly, on a personal note, I have found that this practice causes great difficulty for people like me who are searching for burials and finding gravestones. On many occasions I've found a burial, photographed the gravestone and created a memorial after making certain that no memorial existed in the appropriate cemetery. Only when I went to link my memorial to memorials for other family members, however, I've found that the person already has a memorial, in cyberspace, invisible to me when I made my search of the cemetery on find-a-grave. After many such experiences, I've decided not to encourage the practice by linking my memorials to the unknowns.
I hope you'll understand.

RE: Lee & Ethel Riley
Hi Beverly,

No need to transfer Ethel (Memorial# 126356396) she is a distant relation. Her vitals are badly messed up on other trees and I wanted to get it right. With three husbands, it took quite awhile to research her properly (just in my opinion of course).

I just noticed that I have her obituary that lists birth and death dates with locations for both. I have added a SAC for that info just now. Sorry I didn't have it ready earlier.

I am much better...thanks for asking. They repaired my retinal tears and then the film left on one...totally painless and I am eternally thankful. Hope all is well with you!

RE: Frank Curtis
I'll do that, move it to Rhinebeck Cemetery with a note. Thanks Bev.
