We certainly appreciate all your time, hard work and commitment to shooting gravestones at Leavenworth National Cemetery. What a great way to honor our fallen soldiers, sailors and Marines. Keep up the good work! Thanks so much, WCGS

Photo correction
The photo that you have posted for Nelson Glidewell (91920840) and Sarah Garrett Glidewell (91920880) is incorrect. The couple is on the porch of their home and each has a pipe.

I have this picture passed down in the Murphy family and it is labeled on the back. It belonged to Iva Hayes (daughter of John Hayes and Sarah Murphy. Note: Sarah was the daughter of Henry Franklin Talbert Murphy and Jemima Gibson. Jemima had a sister who married a Glidewell.) The photo is labeled: "Aunt Ellen & Uncle Orlando Murphy" and adds underneath the names -- "Grampa Murphy's brother."

The photo is of Orlando Murphy (55040417) and his wife Ellen Foster Murphy (60620229). The Murphys were also in Sullivan County, Missouri.

I can attach the photo (front and back) to findagrave but it will be helpful for the picture to be detached from Nelson & Sarah. Thank you for your help with this. dws

Hi there, Thanks so much for all the wonderful photos of graves in Leavenworth National Cemetery. I hope you can continue to take photos there as we've been trying to get the cemetery 100 percent photographed over the past couple of years. Your help is greatly appreciated. Mary Ann

Pearl - I added the cemetery to Dotty's memorial. She was so adorable. I loved her to death. I have a group of over 200 Ladies from Chillicothe on Facebook that Dotty was a member of and we all miss her so much. Every one of them knew her and loved her.

RE: Barnes
Thank you for getting the gravestone photo. It's a triple, so you added it to his wife and child. It is odd that his name is Lorenza instead of Lorenzo.

RE: Leavenworth National Cemetery
Thanks so much. There are a couple of options. First, you guys could claim any number of the photo requests at LNC or second, you two could pick a section of the cemetery and just start shooting and posting the photographs. The current requests could give you a sense of which sections still need to be photographed. One of the team is shooting section 44, but I don't know of any other sections that are claimed. Your thoughts? Mary Ann

Hi there, Are you in the Leavenworth National Cemetery area? Would you be interested in helping us fully photograph the cemetery? A team of us have raised the percentage level from 48 to 54 percent over the past six months or so. Anything you can do to help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mary Ann

RE: 135902347 Mary Wood
Hello Pearl, the information listed on Mary's memorial is all that I have in my file. The information came from the Prairie Trails Museum of Wayne Co., Iowa. They sent me some paperwork from the Greenlee Funeral Home, Lineville, Iowa - I understand this funeral home doesn't exist any longer. You may want to contact them to request they research their files for additional information on Mary and her family. They've been very helpful whenever I've contacted them. You can reach them by phone at 641-872-2211 or email them at with your research question.

I did find a marriage record in Mercer Co., Missouri for Mary Howland and a John F. Woods dated 1901 (no month or day visible in record). It appears that a friend sent a note to the court that included the $1 payment for the marriage license (Ancestry has a copy of the friends note attached to the page in the marriage license book). I then found another marriage record in Mercer Co., Missouri for the same people that was dated the 16 March 1902. So it appears that once the court received payment, Mary and John were finally able to marry each other. You may already know that Mercer Co. MO, and Wayne Co., Iowa are across the state border from one another.

Sorry I don't have more information to share with you. Kind regards, Taddy
