Subject: Isaac Daniels

Dear Tim, I have just purchased to photo of Mr. Daniels that is on your Find-A-Grave site. I have absolutely no objection to your keeping it there. I am the author of DON'T TREAD ON ME: Photographs and Life Stories of American Revolutionaries, which is available for download from as a Kindle book. You can find it here, if you would like to see it:

The reason I'm writing is to seek your help. I plan to put out a much-expanded edition of the book, including Mr. Daniels' photograph and a short biography I will write. So far, my research has accumulated a fair amount of information about him, but it has some gaps. Could you please send any information you have about the grand old fellow? For example I know about the mixup on his age, but I haven't found any indication that it was because he lied to join the army. He joined at 16 and that wasn't extremely uncommon. I own a daguerreotype of a man who joined the Revolutionary Navy at 16. So I am inclined to chalk it up to an extremely old man's foggy memory -- but maybe I'm wrong. Also, could you give me citations for his father's fate? Actually, anything you could help me with would be most welcome. Thank you and best wishes, Joe Bauman, Salt Lake City

RE: Edit information
Thank you for the edit information. I actually already had all of the death certificate information. I just have a personal preference to use the dates only for now, when I set up the Memorials. Are you related to any of the Dempsey Family members or their spouses? The best of luck to you in your research.

Thanks for that info but the cetificate is in error. Rose O'Dowd ( not Rosia Daud) was my grandfather's sister and the family used the name Dowd ( not Daud) in England although the 1900 census showed their mother as Daud for some reason. They reverted to O'Dowd in America since the use of the O' in England was discouraged .

Isaac Daniels
Hi Tim: I saw that you had some biographical information on Isaac, and that you have his father as John Daniels who was taken by the British. I wondered what your source is for that?

Also, where did you find the GAR records -- Did you mean DAR?

Sanford Mosier was in possession of the Isaac Daniels Bible (from Rev Pension) and a Daniels researcher stated with no source, that Sanford Mosher or Mosier married a Julia Daniels. This would explain why Sanford had the Bible record.

I have that two of Isaac's wive's names were Mary and Rhoda. There was no source for this at all.

Town of Bedford, Historical Records, 1980.

* Enlisted in the Levies Cromwell, John 1779 Daniels,

* Two yrs. under Capt.
Hunter Joined Stevens Rangers (McD. p. 758) Father of Isaac Daniels

The IGI is not a good source, but I use it for clues. Here is a cryptic noteL

19 NOV 1773 Marietta, , Franklin (sic), Ohio Marriage also to Mary Jackson Marietta, Washington, Ohio

I am researching your Isaac in the belief that he is some relation, possibly a brother, to Philip Daniels who was from Westchester County and migrated to Washington County, Ohio. Bolstering this theory, besides the location of Westchester, is that Philip lived a LONG time. Not over 100, but this side of my family is unusually long-lived. Philip also supposedly served in the Revolution (per his death notice in the newspaper), but he did not apply for a pension, nor have I found any record of it.

Is your source for John Daniels being Isaac's father the same as mine above? THanks!
