Dear Ancestor

Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

--Author Unknown

May the road rise up to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

---------traditional gaelic blessing

Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am in a thousand winds that blow,
I am the softly falling snow.
I am the gentle showers of rain,
I am the fields of ripening grain.
I am in the morning hush,
I am in the graceful rush
Of beautiful birds in circling flight,
I am the starshine of the night.
I am in the flowers that bloom,
I am in a quiet room.
I am in the birds that sing,
I am in each lovely thing.
Do not stand at my grave bereft
I am not there. I have not left.
----Mary Elizabeth Frye 1932---------

Elisha Baldwin Cottingham

I'm trying to run down Elisha Baldwin Cottingham from Bibb County who received an A.B. degree from the University of Alabama in 1886. He was in the Phi Delta Theta legal fraternity at Alabama, so I assume he became a lawyer. I don't know whether he returned to Bibb County or not, but I can't find him. I was wondering if you had come across this name in your research.

Thanks for all your work on Find-A-Grave.

Hello cousin. Hope you are doing well and doing well in your research. One of these days I hope to get down to Bham and do some hands on. Let me know if there are any brick walls you want me to be watching for. Bham Public Library will probably be my first stop. Still have no proof of parents of Joe Lindsay. Have you found that? Take care.

Mistake on grave in Pine Bluff
Please correct the name of my grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Hardin(1894-1930) who was married to my grandfather, Samuel Ben McCay(1874-1934). Both of them are buried in Pine Bluff Cemetery located in Blount County Alabama.
Thank you,

RE: Gooch Changes
Do you by any chance live in north Missouri? I've been looking for some help on cleaning up the Gooch Cemetery where Gideon and Nancy are buried. Probably in November.

RE: Gooch Changes
So we could be related somewhere along the way. Gideon and Nancy Leavell Gooch in the Gooch Cemetery in Chariton County are my g-g-g-grandparents.
