|My obsession now is the Confederate Soldiers of Randolph County, Georgia, USA. Some are marked with a government marker, those you know were in the war, then there are those that have a family marker, these you don't know unless found in the MSR. (military service records) There are some buried here that have no marker. These I'm working on to get marked. I've lived here all 72 years & I'm having a great time. If you have a veteran, any war, buried here, I need their names, what war, where buried. I'm Flo Merritt Young of Shellman, Ga., Randolph County.|

I borrowed a photo you took for JT that was on his wife page Ellen, but was sure to give you credit. I thought he should have his own memorial. He is a distant relative. Thank you

Find A Grave Memorial# 34099333
Your memorial for George Preston Hart-his wife was Clarinda Smith-she was my great grandfather's sister. Her parents were Benjamin Tarpley Smith and Elizabeth W. Jones. The information I received several years ago from a Smith descendant says Benjamin and his wife were buried in Old Sardis Church Graveyard, Terrell County, Georgia. My husband and I made a trip to Terrell County several years ago and searched in vain for that cemetery. Clarinda's sister Mary Elizabeth Smith-was the wife of William Anson Hogue. They are buried in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Tifton, Tift County, Georgia along with some of their children. The Smith descendant from whom I got the information was Benjamin Clifford Hogue-son of William Anson and Mary Elizabeth Smith Hogue. He died in 1961 and is buried in Marietta National Cemetery, Cobb County, Georgia
Regards, Mary Beth Marchant

Your photo of "Jack's" grave marker shows his name was, in fact, Zack - short for Zacharias.
And the date of birth shown on the marker is the 18th, not the 8th as transcribed.

|Dan Bell||Thomas J. Ferguson|
Dear Mrs. Young,
I'm writing to see if the South Carolina State Park Service can get a high resolution digital copy of the photo of Thomas J. Ferguson for use in a permanent exhibit at Rivers Bridge State Historic Site. The exhibit will commemorate the casualties from the Civil War battle of Rivers Bridge. We have only a few images of casualties from among the Confederate troops, so Thomas Ferguson's image would be a very welcome additon to the exhibit.
Thanks, Mrs. Young.

According to Early Co, Georgia, newspaper accounts:
William Archibald Carter had substantial holdings in Early Co., GA. He owned sawmills, stores and other real estate. On September 1, 1903, he was involved in an altercation with one of his renters in the town of Rowena, GA. Will Talliaferro shot Carter in the head while his oldest son, William Alton watched helplessly. He succumbed to his wound, September 4, 1903 in Arlington, Early Co, GA
Will Talliferro, was charged with manslaughter for killing W A Carter, however his trial ended in a mistrial. The prosecution elected not to retry the case.
William Archibald Carter was born November 12, 1858 in Early Co., GA. He was a son of Littleberry Walker Carter and Mary Ann Diligent Seals. He was married September 8, 1885 to Nina Pratt.
