George Washington Brooks
Could you please transfer this memorial over to me or change the burial place for George.
He is buried in the Brooks-Messer cemetery in Del Rio next to his father. Another family member has photos of the headstones, will post as soon as I get them. Thank you.

Re: Dalton's

I just found what you meant. I had not followed thru on my train-of-thought while typing! Thanks for pointing out my mistake. I have corrected this.
My Findagravd should be Accurate now. You should be able to see how we connect now I think. Thanks Ronald!

Eleanor Morrison Lawson
Margaret Justice Williams
Ronald, I also had James Monroe and Cynthia as parents to Margaret. I found proof that this is not the case. and it is proved by 1850 and 1860 census.
She was the daughter of James Dyer Justice and Agnes Morrison. The Cynthia that shows as her mother was actually her half issister.
On 1850 census Margaret is living with her mother, Agnes who 48 yrs old. On the 1860 census she is living with her half sister, Cynthia, who married James Monroe. She is 14 yrs old. By 1870 census she is married to Joseph A Williams and is on the census records as his wife thru 1920. Agnes Morrison was married twice. Husband #1 was Robert Maxwell and they had 2 children, the second being Cynthia. She married #2 James Dyer Justice and had several children, the youngest being Margaret.
I hope I have given you enough background so that you can see that the parents on her Find A Grave are incorrect.
Thank you for all you do for Find A Grave. It means so much to people like me (I"M 89) who are in guarded health and cannot visit cemeteries.
Thanks again.

Thanks for your response. A clue is a clue and always leads to something to prove or disprove.

Find A Grave Memorial# 108824127 Sue Sherlin Rutledge
Susan SHERLIN Sprouse Rutledge is the 2nd Great Grandmother of my husband (through Violet Huffman, her mother Elsie May [Sprouse] Huffman, her father Fred Sprouse, his mother Sue Sherlin & father George Sprouse.
I'm pretty sure she is the "Susie Rutledge" that died 19 Nov 1934 Mills River, Henderson, North Carolina, Married; father: Patterson REESE; mother: Elizabeth DAVIS; Informant: M.A. RUTLEDGE, who was her 2nd husband ("M. A. Rutledge & Susan Sprouse" married 30 May 1902 Buncombe Co, NC @ I don't know why her death cert. states Patterson Reese & Elizabeth Davis as her parents - there is NO other record to support that - she is never on a census record with the Patterson Reese family. Her children's death cert. show: Fred's death rec: mother Sue SHERLIN; Addie's: mother Susy RUTLEDGE; Minnie's : unk; Mary Kate: mother Sue REECE. 1930 census shows Mathias Rutledge 69 & Susie Rutledge 51 with Stepdaughter Addie SPROUSE 31. (I think the Sprouse ladies lied about their ages).
2 of my husband's Sprouse cousins said that Fred's parents were George Sprouse & Susan Sherlin and that George died & Sue couldn't take care of all the children, so they were split-up; Great Aunt Virginia [Sprouse] Walls said the same thing & that she "knew Papa was an orphan."
Well, I finally found a marriage record - I never searched for "G. Sprouse", I read the Madison County Marriage Index page by page to find them: Marriage 29 July 1882 Madison County, North Carolina: Madison Co. MARRIAGE Register: G. Sprouse 19 & Susan Shirling 18 (more likely age 14); Married by Barnett Fortner, JP; witnesses: Bird Shirling & William Sprouse; NC Co. Marriages familysearch database w/IMAGES (accessed 3/13/2016) @
Do you know the family? Are you related? I think the marriage witness, Bird Shirling, is most likely Sue's father. An odd coincidence: Bird Sherlin b.abt 1835 is with J.P. Hughey on the 1870 census - then Susan Sherlin b.abt 1868 is with the SAME James P. Hughey family on the 1880 census - but no Bird Sherlin.
Do you know who the parents of George Sprouse were? Any thoughts or knowledge of the Sprouse & Sherlin lines you can share?

I appreciate your time & effort to make Sue's memorial,
Ruth L Glass

RE: John
Ron and Glenda,
Thank you for your condolences. Thank the Lord, John didn't suffer, after we found out there was nothing they could do to prolong his life, he lived 23 days. I still can't believe he is gone. I sure miss my partner, he was the love of my life. We were working on 60 years of marriage. I thank God for all his many blessings, for I could not go it alone without his mercies.
I love you,
