Naturally I'm interested in all the branches of my family tree, but am currently focused on the ancestry and extended cousinage of my 4th-great-grandmother, Sarah Ann Timberlake Woodfin (1809-1855), who died during a yellow fever outbreak in Norfolk, Virginia. She was a granddaughter of Francis Timberlake (d. 1808) of St Paul's Parish, Hanover County, Virginia, by his wife Sarah Sims Timberlake (1745-1832). In a direct male line of descent her grandmother Sarah was the 3rd-great-granddaughter of Thomas Symes (1621-1670) and his wife Amy Bridges Symes (1621-1662), who were buried in a vault beneath the chancel of St Michael's Church at Winterbourne in Gloucestershire, England. These gateway ancestors connect my ancestry with many of the gentry and baronial families of southwest England and Wales, which have become the focus of much of my research.
