What can I say about myself... I never considered myself a ghoul, although I do like the occasional George Romero movie... Basically I've always been interested in history, and a cemetery is full of history... Wandering through and finding the grave of a soldier who lost his life a week before Lee surrendered to Grant... A monument that shows the grief of a loved one lost too soon... Sometimes a monument to match the ego of the person resting beneath it... More often than not an average working man or woman who did their best to get through life and deserve something to let the living know they were once here, whether you knew them or not. A cemetery can also be a place to find out not where you are going, but where you came from. I'm sure it's been said by someone out there, so I paraphrase whomever, "Cemeteries are not monuments to the dead, but celebrations of the lives they once lived."|

I am sad to have to post that my good friend Robert Knoop who's page this is passed away a couple of months ago. Before he became ill and stopped driving I know he spent a lot of time on the internet and at local cemeteries helping a lot of people. I hope he touched whoever reads this in some small way.

I just transferred the Crehan memorials. Always nice to have family manage the memorials!

Are you related to the Crehan family. I have made the updates you requested. If you are family, I do not have an issue with transferring them to you. I am not related to them.
Please let me know.
|Donna Ruhland Bonning||RE: Craig Colony Memorial Cemetery|
I hope the person you found is a relative. Always nice to hear that someone found a relative or someone of importance who's buried there. This cemetery was for the patients who lived and died at Craig Colony which was originally an institution for people who had Epilespy. Later on it became more of a mental hospital or institution for the mentally handicapped. There is also an older cemetery located in a wooded area for the very 1st patients(also known as "inmates") That particular cemetery has only metal markers with numbers. Very sad statement on the value these people's lives were to society.
There was a fellow who had some basic info on the people buried at the newer cemetery. He could give me dates of birth and death although he legally shouldn't have because the records are locked up in Albany. Unfortunatly this fellow passed away last summer so i can no longer get dates from him......
If you were able to prove how you're related there is a slim chance that you might be able to gain access to some of the basic info. There's a lady i know who ws able to do this. She explained what she did on her findagrave page.....I'll give you the link.
You can also check the census records for Craig Colony. It's located in Livingston County. Town of Groveland. I was able to match up a bunch of people with those records. Basics like dates of birth and death. Nothing much more than that....
Here is that link for you. I'm sure that you could write to her as well and maybe she can give you more info on how she did it.....
I truely DO wish i could help you more. I've had many people write me and ask the same question as you and i've sadly been unable to help.....
Just cut and paste..If you have trouble with this her name is Diane Miller and her member # is
Good luck and let me know how you do......
|AuntieJ||RE: Virginia D. Buck Tusen|
No, I'm sorry to say I didn't know Virginia; it would have been fun to watch the Sox games with her I'm sure. What most likely occurred is that I was chasing down some distant relatives around that area and probably came across her obituary in the process.
Would you like to take over management of her page? If so, please use the EDIT tab to ask for a transfer.
Sorry I couldn't be of more help to you.

I transferred Catherine's memorial to you. I see i had an extra picture on there and i removed it.
(makes me wonder how many other errors i may have made down the line)
I enjoyed reading your profile. My thoughts exactly!
