Your tombstone stands among the rest;
Neglected and alone.
The name and date are chiseled out
On polished, marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care
It is too late to mourn.
You did not know that I exist
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you
In flesh, in blood, in bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.
Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago
Spreads out among the ones you left
Who would have loved you so.
I wonder if you lived and loved,
I wonder if you knew
That someday I would find this spot,
And come to visit you.

|Perry Streeter||Joshua & Betty (-----) Porter|
This Mother’s Day morning, I added a flower to the grave of my “grandmother,” Betty [--?--] Porter (31964505), wife of Joshua Porter. While I was there I noticed that you too had left a flower for Grandma Betty in the past.
Despite much effort over the years, I still know nothing of the origins of Joshua and Betty. Most of what I do know is documented in www.perrystreeter.com/porter.pdf.
Have you ever considered having your (husband father? brother?) join the Porter DNA project? A sample might enable us to determine who was Joshua Porter’s immigrant Porter ancestor and narrow the scope of future research efforts. I have long “advertised” the following:
“Who were the parents of JOSHUA PORTER of Ridgefield, Fairfield Co., CT, b. ca. 1730; killed by the British during the American Revolution at Daniel Starr's residence, Danbury, CT on Saturday, 26 April 1776? Joshua reportedly had a brother named John Porter. A free DNA test may be available to a known (or highly probable) descendant of Joshua Porter who is willing to join the Porter Surname DNA Project.”
I am sure that Family Tree DNA will soon have a sale on Y-DNA test kits for Father’s Day. On behalf of all descendants of Joshua and Betty, please consider taking advantage of my offer.

I have transferred Harold's memorial to your care. Thanks for all you do for Find A Grave.

Hi Sandy. I just came across your memorial for Mary, and wanted to let you know that she's buried in Long Beach, CA, not Oakland Cemetery in Princeton, IL. Please see memorial #152960369, which I created a couple of years ago. (I hadn't seen your memorial before since it wasn't linked to that of her first husband Calvin Coddington.) It would probably be best to removing the Illinois memorial since it has an incorrect burial location. P.S. - I'm a McGowan descendant, and would be interested in sharing family information with you, if you'd like. :)

|Jason Cerny||RE: Carle Porter Jr.|
According to cemetery office, Bonnie is his wife.
|Jason Cerny||Carle Porter Jr.|
Carle JR. was not by Irene. I assume the Carle Porter Sr. buried here is his father, but the cemetery has no record of Carle Jr.

Hi Sandy, I just wanted to let you know that I've added tombstone pictures to the Stratton's memorials if you care to take a look. They are in rough shape due to age, but if you click on the picture, once opened, click on it again and you'll get a bigger view. Thought you'd like to know. Regards, Nadeen

Certainly. I don't normally add if another contributor has posted a photo, but I had taken a close-up of these. The stone is perfect in 2008...perhaps newly cleaned if anyone does that.
|Jennifer Traxler||RE: Frank Griffith|
According to a cemetery book created by the Mitchell Research Center and Louise Hawkes in 1983 says Griffith, Frank d. June 11, 1909 no stone dates from burial records.
There is a whole bunch of Griffiths in St. Anthony's Cemetery, which Griffiths would you like me look into...Please email me @ firstname.lastname@example.org
