Mount Pleasant Cemetery
Hi Scott,

I don't think I have done this previously, but I wanted to let you know, you have taken the most awesome photo of Mount Pleasant Cemetery! It brings tears to my eyes with the river and sun in it!

We found it a few years ago and was astonished at its location and beauty. Have been back several times. My girlfriend is a descendant of Fertigs and Garmans and you know, that cemetery is loaded with them!

Thank you so much!

Barry Michie

Hope this finds you and yours well.

By a chance discovery on Family Search I've been able to trace out one of the daughters of Benjamin Franklin Shaddow and Ellen Rebecca Heckman. She married Allen N Rhoades. They are both on Findagrave #'s 94680293 & 94680232. Her PA death certificate is best found under her married name, Margaret E Rhoades, 1865-1946. Her father's name is transcribed incorrectly: Haddow....sloppy writing strikes again.

Best, Barry

Hello Scott Shatto;

I saw the wonderful memorial that is for Johanne Nichlaus Schatto and his wife Eva Marie Schatto who had arrived on the "Loyal Judith" Sept 3, 1739; and I have a perplexing question.

I have read, that many of the Immigrant Palatinate List/Rosters were lost in the 1700's. I am wondering if Johanne Nichlaus Schatteau/Schatto possibly had other family members to arrive after his arrival? Possibly a cousin with a family, with the same or similar name.

I'm a direct descendant of a George Weigel who lived in Lancaster County, Pa, and married on Dec 23, 1768, to a Elizabeth Schatten. No known middle name that I know of or had ever heard of her with a middle name. Her parents and even kinfolk, were not known in oral traditional stories that I heard from my Dad; he was born in 1913--so I heard a lot of genealogy related information. The short synopsis: The Weigel's left Pennsylvania, going to Augusta County, Virginia, via the Wagon Road. She, died between 1805 and 1809, he passed away in Dec 1815. Some of their son's and daughter-in-laws, went further West and South, into Monroe County, Virginia (West Virginia), Green County, Tenn, and into Ohio. One son, continued to live in Augusta County, Virginia and had a family there. The name has undergone variations of spelling due to phonetics over the last 200 years; and descendants have spread across all the states in the two centuries since. Yet, Elizabeth Schatten family connections are a mystery--who could she possibly be related to from the Lancaster County area?
I had seen that Johannes Nichlaus Schattea/Schatto and wife Eva Maria, had several children who were born in Lancaster County and there are a few gap years that another daughter could have been born. Since my ancestor, Elizabeth Schatten, married in 1768, the assumption is she was 17 years old at the time of the marriage to George Weigel; or a birth year of 1751. Could she be a daughter of Johannes Nichlaus and Eva Maria, or possibly a granddaugher that was born to Nicholas Schatto Jr.,who was born in 1733? There couldn't have been too many families in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania with similiar names of Schatten and Schatteau/Schatto, especially in the 1740's to 1760's?
I sent you a friend request, you might be able to shed some important insight into her family mystery. My findagrave email is:; but it gets overloaded with Facebook messages so it takes me longer to respond. But I will respond or you can send me a public message on Findagrave as well. Which would be faster.

Thank you;

Stephen Miller
Toboyne Presbyterian Churchyard
Hi Scott,

Hope you are doing well.

I am from Charlotte, NC and had family who lived in the late 1700’s in Toboyne/Blain.

My relative’s name was Robert Miller who had land adjacent to James Blain. Robert and his wife Jane (Jean) along with other family members cannot be found in any graveyards. I actually drove from Charlotte over the holidays and scoured Robert Miller’s old property near Centre Presbyterian Church.

After conducting research last night I just discovered the cemetery called Toboyne Presbyterian Churchyard which was next to Robert’s property in Toboyne. This cemetery had graves at least 10 years before Robert died in 1774.

I was wondering if you know of or could seek out any Millers in the graveyard? Are there any records at all from the old meeting house held on James Blain’s land? In Robert Miller’s Will, James Blain is a Yeoman listed…so I know they both knew each other well.

Not sure if you live close to the site or not.

Anything you can do to assist me would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards,

Your post (45812389) is duplicated by 131407347 but in a different cemetery. I have no idea which of you is correct. I can find no death certificate for Abraham Garlin.

Bull Hill Cemetery
Hi, Scott; Have been taking more photographs. I'm one of the 3 folks that have been restoring/cleaning the Rice monuments there and helping with the landscaping. A few years ago this monument had fallen over and virtually 100% buried, so we raised and cleaned it. Beautiful. Thanks for posting it.
