Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Houston, Texas. My lifelong fascination with history has taken a turn into genealogy lately and I cannot get enough. If I can help any Allsmans/Alsmans, Linns, Moulds', Algeos, Gesamans, Burgess', Kirks, Holdemans, etc, I'd be delighted. That goes for anyone that needs photos of markers in the NW Houston area, as well.

Andrew Alsman Sr Birthplace
The description provided for Andrew Alsman Sr at indicates that he was living with the family of James and Syntha A Mason in Sullivan County IN according to the census of 1850. However, his birthplace is listed as Virginia in that census. Have you seen any document listing his birthplace as Germany?

Alsman / Epperson Relation
Thanks for the great work on LT Andrew "Old Andrew" Alsman, Sr ( and Ann Stallins Alsman ( According to the connection at of Joel H. Epperson to Anna Alsman Epperson, I am distantly related as follows:

Andrew Alsman married Ann Stallins. Their daughter, Anna Alsman married Joel H. Epperson. Their son, Andrew Richard Epperson married Ellen (a.k.a Fitz Ellen, Vitsellen) Wilson Their son, Richard Joseph (Bud) Epperson married Rosa A (maiden unknown;possibly Lilly). Their son, Fredrick (Fred) Epperson married Edna A Smith. Their son, Melvin Fred Epperson is my father.

So.... I don't know how this all sorts out in relation to you, but at least I may have a lead.

Syche Op Den Graeff Cassel
I see that Syche was your 7x Great grandmother- me too!
How are you related to her? I am through her husband Hupert Cassel. My 2x great grandmother was Isabelle Cassel. The Cassel name was used as a first name for my grandfather- Cassel Snyder and I again used it with my son- Cassel Scholz.
Anyway, always nice to find a fellow family researcher.

Your relative
I noted that you are related to Mr. Richardson, and here is something I transcribed about him. If you already have this, just delete.

FLANAGAN, Sept. 11 -- Thomas H. Richardson, a native of Ramsey, Huntingtonshire, England, who spent seven weeks and three days on a sailing vessel crossing to America, with his parents in 1853, will celebrate his 100th birthday here tomorrow. Richardson came to Illinois in a covered wagon in 1854 from Evansville, Ind. He lived near Lacon, in Marshall county, until 1857 when he moved to Livingston county. He married Miss Mary Ann Farr in 1867. She died in 1918. Richardson has four sons and three daughters who plan to be with him tomorrow. He also has 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren and five great-great grand children. [Daily Illini, 12 September 1944.)

Thanks, Pam

Tom Saltsman
Alsman / Saltsman connection
Thanks for the information. It's great.

I'm Tom Saltsman of San Antonio, TX (b,1952 in Sacramento, CA). You can find me as a contributor on Find A Grave.

Years ago, Glen Allsman (yes, with two "L"s!) Fowler (b. 1918) of Lincoln City, Oregon, told me that Andrew Alsman, grandfather of the other Andrew Alsman of Palmyra Massacre fame, was the son of my 5ggf Wilhelm Saltzman. This Andrew Saltsman/Satzman changed his surname to Alsman.

It seems Wilhelm's son Andrew went down to Kentucky after arriving on the Edinburgh, captained by James Russell, into Philadelphia, PA, on Monday, September 16, 1751. I have a copy of the ship's log where one can see the name of Wilhelm Saltsman.

I'm curious. How did you find the place of Andrew's birth?
