Bio and Links
Bio Photo I am eighth generation Iowan. My mother's side of the family has been in Iowa since 1839. I have been working on my family history since 1980.

I began contributing to Find A Grave as a means to record the headstone inscriptions I had transcribed from walking many cemeteries back in the day, mostly Audubon, Cass, Clarke, Madison, Polk and Warren counties in Iowa and mostly relatives. This was before Find A Grave and way before Find A Grave turned into a genealogical site. My parents have also contributed headstone photographs they have taken. My main goal is to preserve what was written on the headstones, to learn about the people and to honor the deceased.

You will find the link to this page on the left side of each Find A Grave page under Actions. If you have been a contributor on Find A Grave for an extended amount of time you might want to reread this page. Most of the rules and guidelines have changed since bought this site.

Please contact me by clicking the edit tab on the upper right hand corner of the memorial. I will not add highly detailed information such as census transactions and Family Search Marriage Records. This data is more suited for sites like, or your virtual cemetery, etc.

Please use the edit tab to request links. I DO NOT LINK TO UNKNOWN BURIALS.

Please use the edit tab to request transfers. I will then receive a link to the memorial in question.

Thank you!!

RE: Martin Nelson
Hi Karen,

Thank you for your kind offer to help me. I had
written to my distant relative Mary who has created memorials and she sent instructions to me. It was much simpler than I thought it would be. Martin's
memorial is so complete with short bio, his wife
and children. (102226892)
Thank you for your tribute to Martin, it was very thoughtful of you and greatly appreciated.
Thanks again for all the great work you do.

Thank you for the great work you have done and are doing. I don't know how to manage a memorial but have two relatives in the Nelson line who have created memorials and they can show me. Thank you for the opportunity. Diane Jestes

RE: Tull Cemetery, John Gracey
Hi Karen

I have 3 John Gracey's buried in Tull. I just noticed I duplicated your memorial. I have a copy of Cemetery Inscriptions from Hancock County I got it from the Historical Society there. You can call me at 309-371-4098. The eight month old Gracey picture you can use for your memorial and I can delete mine. Just let me know what you would like. I am transcribing the rest and hope to get them online very shortly.

Maude Ethel Brewer Marocco Jones 1922-?
Hello, I am doing some research on Maude who is still living as far as I know in Fort Myers, Florida. According to the 1930 census she was living with Alfred Jacob Brewer. I was trying to find out who her parents were. Her youngest son, Bruce Marocco died in 1996. His middle name was Curtis. Turns out Curtis Brewer was in the Civil War and is buried in the same cemetery as Alfred and Lena Brewer. Just wondering if you knew why Maude went to live with her Uncle and aunt.
Thanks Doug in Tacoma
I'm thinking Curtis A. Brewer was her grandfather.

RE: Mrs Hodges
Here is her info on ancestry.
Her father and some siblings lived in Clarke Co, while she lived in Jones Co with her husband Vincent Hodges.
It is refreshing to find someone else that verifies their research. Ive had to correct info when people didnt do their homework.

RE: Mrs Hodges
Thanks for your reply, I will keep searching. Im thinking it may be Rebbeca Wry Hodges. She died suddenly at 36 years.

—Supt. J. W. Miller placed small head stones on the graves of the twelve paupers buried in the Fremont cemetery Friday. Six of the Inmates had been buried before Mr Miller took charge and only one of the graves is known by name. Six have died since he has been superintendent. They are Mrs. Schrader and baby, Mrs. Watson, Thomas Bell, Mrs. Hodges and Nettie Mendenhall.
