Every memorial represents a life and has meaning. The "dash" between birth and death dates is who they were. We don't know most of these people, some may have been unkind or done bad things, we have no idea, so we create the memorials - in earthly death all are equal.

There are some that are extra special to us so if you have time to visit and leave a flower for the any/all of the following, much obliged;

I am an American living in Australia and all of my family is in USA except one daughter who came to Oz with me. I am the only child of my parents. They both had siblings, one died as an infant and the other a young child. I do have older sisters that were born of our mother. My family names are Kiffmeyer, LaZebnick, Quinn, Hood, Koch, Courtwright (Cortwright), Bowhanan (Buchanan) and the family comes from Ohio: Price Hill, New Richmond, Reading, and from Pennsylvania: Dingman Ferry, Milford, Pike County and Stroudsburg. European countries include County Tyrone, Ireland, Scotland, England, Prussia and Alsace-Lorraine France/Germany. I can trace my family back to 1760 through the Quinns to County Tyrone, to the Revolutionary War through Buchanan (DAR), the Civil War through Koch and working on the Mayflower with Courtwright (Cortwright) Bishop and Hood (or Houth or Hod).My husband's family names are McIntosh, Johnson (Johnston) on the paternal side and that side of the family has been in Oz for at least 3 generations, coming from Scotland to Australia. The maternal side of the family is Hulme and Dodgson from Stockport, England. He is first generation Australian on his mother's side. We have found many of his relatives, even some live ones he didn't know about through Find A Grave! Any family work we do in Australia is his family and has no connection to my family... maybe if we both go back far enough in Scotland or England?

We are happy to photograph in Victoria, Australia, as we like to travel so don't hesitate to ask for other places, even obscure ones. We are trying to preserve some precious bits of history that could be lost forever, especially in the older cemeteries. In Australia, "Cremated remains" memorials are dismantled after 25 years if "perpetual care" wasn't purchased (family can collect them or the cemetery will dispose of them) or you can pay the cost of perpetual care at today's prices! When we photograph we try to give a "big picture" and take as detailed a photo of stones or markers. When there is no marker, we photograph the site to give those searching a feel for the plot and we try to take photos on either side as markers. There may also be additional people buried in graves with others but not all names are on the marker. We will create memorials for anyone buried in the photo requested grave and transfer them to keep families together. We were working primarily on Springvale, Cheltenham Pioneer and Cheltenham Memorial but will dabble in other cemeteries as needed (eg. Mathoura Pioneer and Mathoura Lawn).

If memorials are damaged or unreadable we try to piece things together or transcribe as best we can. Photographing stones on overcast days is best but not always possible. A dust brush, cloth and water to clean off stones is good as well as a wet rag and dirt is invaluable on a carved stone that has faded. We will get you the best photo we can and if you don't like it, let us know so we can try again.
