I've had a serious interest in recording our past and present for many years. I'm an avid researcher doing our genealogical history, and find searching cemeteries fascinating. |
A headstone may be the last tangible remains of a loved one, proof that that person actually existed. I feel we're preserving these grave stones the best we can. By taking pictures and transcribing these headstones, we stop the progress of time, weather, and, most unfortunately, vandalism that sometimes makes a headstone illegible or missing.
So as you pass your way through a cemetery, consider an old Mexican saying about three
"First, there is the moment in which the body stops functioning. Second, there is the
time that the remains are consigned to the grave. Third, there is that moment, sometime
in the future, in which the person's name is spoken for the last time.......Then the
person is really gone."
As you read through the names on the grave stones, whisper their names aloud, so they will
not be forgotten and will live on forever.
For downloadable photos I try to post my cemetery photos on Picasa. You can search them at: http://picasaweb.google.com/LBadgley
I invite anyone who wants to, please feel free to use any photos attached to any memorial. These are for family of the deceased to remember, honor and respect. What better way than to share photos.
Lately I have found a focus on our Veterans. When I see that a Veteran has passed, I try to establish a Memorial for him or her. If you are a family member of one of these veterans, please request a transfer if you wish.

Thank you for maintaining my aunt Stasia's Memorial. Yor are doing a great job. I have so far only created about 31 memorials and taken over managing some more. I think it is very rewarding work.
|Lisa Van Gemert||Thank you!|
Thanks for fixing both Marcellus and Martha Lewis Gates! I appreciate it!

I submitted an edit because he's linked as his own father. It doesn't let you say why, so I'm leaving a message here. He was a talented guy, but not that talented!
|Ed M||Assumption "PLOTS"|
You may have received several edits from me for Assumption Cemetery (Syracuse NY) related to "Plots D/A".
I photographed as many of the legible markers I could find (over 1,000) in the Plots D/A and am now in the process of adding memorials and updated info for burials in that area with the assistance of cemetery staff where needed. I've divided the Plots into about 4 equal sections and am listing the burials in the sub-divided Plots D through A (left to right when facing the Plots) and have sent you edits based on such. I've sent some other edits also.
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Thank you, Ed

You made it possible for me to visit my daughter

My pleasure Linda!
I've attached a link for a photo of mine of the burial area. All the original markers are still on site but they were removed from the actual grave sites and stacked as you see in the photo to preserve the integrity of the inscriptions. Don't know if it made much sense to do so since no one can see the inscriptions that have been preserved?

Just noticed John J Baker and wondering why he got buried there where my Nathan Baker was minister 200 years ago. Can I use a copy of his gravestone picture for his page at ancestry.com ? Thank you.
