Bio Photo A Southern Family Tree is not a tree but a beautiful Wisteria Vine with many branches going everywhere and a lost root!

NSDAR 1988 Patriots: Rev. Lewis Cookson Davis, John Anderson, Charles Heard, William Hay, Lt. Willis Pope, Nathaniel Jones,John Stovall, Absalom Davis and Owen Griffin. Only one has a known grave site so the rest do not have memorials on FAG. (Update Nov 2015: found that other members are now making unknown burials of these patriots meeting their genealogy storage goal and not FAG's goal of recording graves sites)

To keep weeds out of the beautiful Find A Grave garden....

First, I don't link to Burial Unknown Site Memorials as BU shouldn't be on FAG according to the guidelines of the website. Do not request relationship edits to a BU as it will be refused. The first criteria for making a memorial on FAG is having the burial site, as this is a grave registration site. When you made a BU, you have a chance of losing the memorial to the member who "Find A Grave" in the cemetery.

Second, I may or may not transfer outside of the guidelines to an established member. It is my choice. Long-time hard working-members, who are busy in surveying cemeteries and taking grave photos impress me more than someone who is collecting others' memorials for their personal goal or waiting for someone to find the burial sites for their numerous memorials made with an "unknown burial site".

If you are seeking transfer to "have all your family together" ~ use the virtual cemetery button. Then all of the memorials will be in the same "cemetery", and you can look at them daily.

Lastly, there are no duplicated memorials on FAG. If I find a duplicated memorial while researching this site, there is 99% chance that it will be deleted or merged eventually.

You may disagree with the guidelines but remember the guy who started Find A Grave wrote them. He is the boss.

Many of the memorials transferred to me were done without my request for them. These memorials have found a home and will be nurtured.

Also, thank you for all the flowers and tokens left on my family's memorial. They are all sincerely appreciated by me and my family.

Remember to check on the Discussion Forums here. They are very newsy, helpful and interesting!

I have a copy of the Application For Headstone by Hearne American Legion Post 454 and they give his Death Date March 4, 1885. If you want I can send it to you.

I received a correction for her death date. It should be February 8, 2003. Funeral Service was February 10, 2003
Here is the message from Lynne Tullos
Hi Jerry,
I am the niece (by marriage) of Mary D and the wife of one of her nephews, Tim Tullos. You probably know Pierre, Lloyd, and AddieJo Gauthier from Cottonport, on Owen's side of the family. Tim is one of 4 nephews on Auntie's (Mary D) side of the family.

When the funeral home etched the granite, they put the wrong date. I called them as soon as I saw it and of course they said they couldn't "undo" the chiseled date. I told them that was not acceptable but obviously they haven't changed it. I am planning a trip there in April to see what can be done.

We live in Baton Rouge so Cottonport isn't "on the way" to any destinations we travel. I am attaching a picture of the funeral card with the correct date. I don't have an account on Ancestry so I hoped you could correct the mistake there. I cared for Auntie when she moved to Baton Rouge and I handled her business affairs and the funeral, which is why I feel responsible for the funeral home debacle.

With kindest regards,

Lynne Tullos

RE: Thank you for the obit
Thanks, Linda, about the heads up on George McNeels first wife's grave. I happened upon that information just about the time you sent me the message. I appreciate your thoughtfulness.

I am not able to find this grave at the Pioneer Cemetery in Novato, CA. This is not an active cemetery, the most recent burials being in the 1950's. Perhaps it is a mistake. There are "memorial" trees and benches there, but I was not able to locate one of those for Mr. Harmon either. There are no other Harmon's in this cemetery. I spoke with a park maintenance person and he said there are no recent burials there. (The City of Novato maintains this cemetery, having taken it over after WWII due to it being "abandoned").

Anna Riedel & Use of the Prefix Mrs.
Hi Linda, thanks for your edits for Anna's memorial, and your there was no e-mail address, I am responding here. In summary, adding Mrs. helps researchers in a number of ways...when scanning search results for a surname, it quickly allows you to scan and eliminate any "Mrs" as not born with that name; it helps with foreign and unisex first names. That's why, while not mandatory to add it, there is no FAQ saying to not use it. Here's hoping one day "Mr." and "Ms." will also be added to our options!

Thanks again, Mark

RE: Ennis Cemetery Photo Request
I did forwarded that email to Find A Grave Support with my request to merge. I think that they need to know who the bad actors are. Hadn't thought about the virus issue. Anybody who would do that should be banned from Find A Grave for life if there is any way to keep them from slipping in the back door. We are in the same boat.

RE: Ennis Cemetery Photo Request
Thank you for getting rid of duplicates, Linda! Unfortunately some "Contributors" think they can create dups for their relatives, friends, because they have lots to add, or for whatever reason. They have no concept of the issues those create. We aren't popular with that group. I recently got this reply, "are you Find A Grave administration? or just self appointed 'poh-lice/gestapo'?"

I Figure I'm close to pushing the merger of 1,500 dup Memorials and have had over ten dup cemeteries merged. All that mess has really slowed down my productive work on Find A Grave.

A fan,

RE: Ennis Cemetery Photo Request
Well ... actually ... I was the one who had Find A Grave merge the two cemeteries and am working from here in Houston to clear up all of the duplicates. We'll be back in New York around the first of May and then I can think about taking photos in Ennis Cemetery. BL

We must be living in parallel universes. If you had an email address I could send you a screen shot. Better yet, check out your two requests at:

This doesn't mean much (a screen shot is more better), but here is a copy and paste of the one Request above yours plus your two:
