With much of my immediate family growing in and around the Washington D.C area for generations, I was never overly curious about family history. After a friend who was more interested than I found photos of relatives gravesites in other states who were born during the time of Andrew Jackson I was amazed. Even a marker for my grandmother's unnamed infant son which I had seen in home movies had been photographed by someone.|
I am most familiar with DC area's, Holy Rood, Arlington Cemetery, Oak Hill and Cedar Hill Cemetery on Pennsylvania Avenue. I have taken many photos for my own enjoyment and for friends over the years, but realize others are often not so near.
Note also, feel free adding a photo to any of my memorials, as different time of day, light and opportunity may aid in clarity and appreciation to a loved one or researcher. The older photos on this site do not allow you to zoom in, plus digital cameras are much improved since the early 2000's.

What joy I feel from your contributions because Mary was a sister of my Great great grandfather Robert Joseph Dawson. Mary was incarcerated in a mental institution and Robert (174230594) had that twinkle in his eye! I will be editing (adding) my known relatives to Mary and her mother, Susanna, and brother William. I have been searching for info on Susanna's husband, William G. Dawson, Sr. and appreciate your comment that so far you have not found him buried at Holy Rood. I myself am from DC and went to Little Flower Elementary School, graduating in 1965 with a Mary Walsh and her non identical twin sister (forgot name). Oh should I have had this passion when I lived in Bethesda and waited for the DC transit bus on Wisconsin Ave near Tenley Circle! I never knew Holy Rood was there! Thanks for your sharing. Wow - thanks so much for the speedy response. I had not even looked for a Jameson marriage. So should I go with Lilly V. Jameson Pierce? Any luck with middle name? Thanks again!

Thank you so much for taking the time to go to the cemetery and for taking the nice photos. I really appreciate it.
|Renee Tanger Scott||Mary Ann McKewen|
I've been researching Peter McKewen (Ireland) and his wife Ann for a long time. I find them in the 1850 Philadelphia, PA census with 9 of their children, including my 3rd Great Grandmother. I can follow Peter to California and until he dies. I'm attempting to find him before he comes to the United States. Now, maybe I can find them through Ann. I know he's widowed before he moves to CA. I'm hoping this Mary Ann McKewen might be my Ann. Hoping you can help me.

Stunning find! Helps fill in a big gap and establishes a Galway link to both Keady and Tierney families! Very much appreciated!

You are welcome! I found the information randomly, while searching for something else, and then found your memorial, or I never would have known where he was buried. Teamwork. :-) Alice
