I have been interested in my family since I was 5 years old, but did not start doing family research until 1990. I have been on staff at the Oakland California Family Search Library from 1991 to the present day. After I retired in 2010 I have had lots of time for family research and in searching for my family I have been many places in the United States and to England and the Netherlands across the big "little" pond.|
I work with my wife to take pictures and visit cemeteries that she has entered over the years so together we have entered many memorials and pictures.
I'm a native Californian, born in the San Francisco Bay area. I have been married twice and have 3 children and 5 grandchildren.
I'm only human so as a result from time to time I may make an error in entering information on a memorial, so if you see one please let me know so that I can fix it. I want my memorials to be as accurate as possible not only for my family but for others as well. If you want a bio added please sent it to me and I'll put in the memorial.

Duplicate as your memorial on the above was created in Nov of 2016 and this memorial 171789201, for the same individual was created in Oct. of 2016. Yours is much more detailed and informative. Perhaps that person would delete theirs even though it was created before yours.

Sorry about the picture. After I posted the picture I had of Riley I realized it was the wrong Riley. I will go back to Smithville next week and find the right Riley and if you want put your request back on there. If someone else don't get it I will do my best to get the right Riley next week.
Received edits and will approve. Are you related? Would you like a transfer?
|Judy Murphy||RE: Charles Richard Fitch|
Bob: I searched through various records at the library and this is what I found on Mr. Fitch. It would have been preferred if I could have printed from the microfilm containing Gipson Funeral Home records, but it was too dim. In fact I had to use a magnifying glass to read it!
The 1940 census of San Francisco listed Charles R. Fitch as "widowed".
Walker Cemetery roster does NOT show Mr. Fitch listed; however, per microfilm from Gipson Funeral Home ..
Document on Gipson Funeral Home letterhead dated Nov. 1, 1955
To Whom It May Concern:
This is to authorize The Gipson Funeral Home, 222 South Second St., Lufkin, Texas, to disinter the remains of my late husband, Charles R. Fitch, who was buried October 4, 1955 in Walker Cemetery near Lufkin, Texas.
The above deceased is to be moved to another grave space in the Walker Cemetery at the convenience of The Gipson Funeral Home.
Signed: Winnie C. Fitch
Service: October 9, 1955
Place of Interment: Walker Cemetery
Place of service: Graveside at 2:30 p.m.
Officiating: Rev. Edmond Gray
Who will select grave site: Ben Lyles (Mr. Lyles is buried at Walker Cemetery - relationship?)
Body to come by rail from Duggan Funeral Home (California)
Mrs. Fitch coming over land after 1 p.m. for Wednesday funeral.
On Ancestry.com I located in California, Death Index 1940-1997 on ..
Winifred Hardy Fitch, born Mar. 23, 1908 in Texas; died May 10, 1990 in Santa Barbara, Ca.
Father: Joseph Jefferson Hardy (1879-1947 buried at Magnolia Cemetery in Beaumont, Tx; Find A Grave Memorial #58983454)
Mother: Julia Estelle Isbell Hardy (1878-1929 buried at Loma Vista Memorial Park, in Fullerton, CA, Find A Grave Memorial #153465124)
Census records list Winifred's (Winnie) name as Hardy until 1940 Census when she is FITCH. I looked through marriages for Angelina County, Tx during this time period and was unable to find a marriage here for Winnie & Charles R. Fitch.
If Duggan Funeral Home is still in operation, perhaps you could check their death records for further info. The 1955 obituary in the Lufkin Daily News states Charles' services were held at Duggan Funeral Home.
Hopefully we are on the right tract here, but who knows ..

I ran across this obituary while going through old microfilm at the local library. I wondered myself WHY they would go to the expense of bringing his body to Lufkin when he died in California. There must be a Lufkin connection wouldn't you think.
I have walked this particular cemetery (Walker) many times and have not come across a marker unless it is sunken.
The cemetery does have a printed record of burials there so I will check that out one day this week to see what I can come up with. Will get back in touch with you -- will also look for CLARA.

I don't think that I linked them in the first places since I had written his fathers name in the Bio.
However thank you for noticing the error and I have unlinked his wife's parents from being his parents.
|kelli mayer||photo-Friends Arch Street Meeting House Burial Ground|
In September 2016 you posted a stock photo to the main page of the Friends Arch Street Meeting House and Burial Ground in Philadelphia that is not a correct photo. The picture you posted is a stock photo of Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia (which someone has incorrectly labeled as the Arch Street Meeting house) - not located near the Friends Meeting House. This photo should be removed as it does not depict the building or grounds of the area location. Thank you.

Hi Bob! This picture was intended for a different Nannie Carter! The Nannie Carter this was meant for would have been a granddaughter, I believe. I will remove the photo. Thank You for calling it to my attention! Take care!
