Bio Photo I love doing genealogy. The search for our ancestors and their stories have intrigued me beyond my own imagination. I love walking the old cemeteries and then, the search that comes with them. I hope I can help another person in their research.

Please, do not add death certificates to the memorials I have created. Sometimes, they can be hurtful to family members. Also, any pictures or information I have added, feel free to use them. It would be nice to have credit for them.

RE: Christopher Columbus Sliger
No confusion, just facts ... there were two men about the same age named Christopher Sliger. The one buried in McMinn Co., TN died in 1897 and is buried there in the Rice Cemetery. This is well documented as are his marriages. The Christopher Sliger who was the father of Solomon Sliger and Elizabeth (Brown) Sliger was on the 1850 White Co., TN Census with Elisabeth and several children, including Solomon, age 17. In 1860 the family seemed to disappear. That corresponds with your story of the time period in which solomon went to California due to gold rush fever. He returned to the area by 1870 and was living in Putnam county (Cookeville is the county seat) when the 1870 census was enumerated. He was living with his mother at that time but his dad was no longer in the household. That year's census did not show marital status but she appears to have been widowed by then. By 1880 she was living in Putnam County. TN with Solomon and his wife. This census year she is listed as a widow. Do you suppose Christopher died on the way to California instead of Texas? Family histories often get "fuzzy" regarding details after a few years of retelling them.

There seems to be a lot of confusion on this man and his wives. There is a burial site for Elizabeth Bayless nee BROWN Sliger in Nolan Co, TX. The Nolan County, TX history book states that her husband, Christopher, died in 1897 along the wagon trail to Texas. He was traveling with their son, Solomon Sliger. Can you help clear this up for me? Connie"

Sarah C. Naff
I was doing some digging trying to find Sally Nina May Naff 1865-1909, who married the son of the Sarah C. Naff you have a memorial for. (Memorial 52976377) This led me to a memorial in Elmwood Cemetery, 147255005, for Sarah C. Naff, 1843-1923 - I think this is your Sarah Naff, but buried in Elmwood, not Oak Hill. It also appears that her husband, William H. Naff, is buried in Elmwood too, in in Oak Hill as per your memorial 106377137; see 147255084.

I thought you might want to update your memorials, and copy the grave marker photos to your memorials (or I can add photos I took to your memorials, which I can do right now if you like); then you should probably get the owner of the memorials created in Elmwood to delete theirs.

Ella Slaughter # 161602162
Hi Connie-

I added a picture of the grave for Ella. There was no marker. I am going to check the cemetery lot books next time I go and see if the lot number is correct. Do you know if she is in lot 338 for sure?

I don't know if someone sent me an edit to add the lot number, or if I saw it on an earlier viewing of lot books.

When I don't find a marker, I like to verify through the cemetery lot books to make sure the lot number is correct, and then go from there.

But just wanted to let you know I have added a picture!

Tami

Ella (Cantrell) Slaughter
Hi Connie-

I am going to the cemetery today, as there is a lull in the 5 days of stormy weather here! I will probe around and see if I can find a marker for Ella.

I am looking for her son James Sanford Cavaness, in 1930. Any clues on where he may be?

Connie,
I believe that the information on a death certificate can be very helpful in a search for our loved ones. Not only might it provide some new, unknown information, it can confirm what we already believe to be true. Per your request I have removed the death certificate from this memorial.
