My husband and I enjoy finding monuments for other people and am extremely grateful to the volunteers who have found my own people for me. We've been working on finding the little pioneer cemeteries in the area and putting their inhabitants online. Four of our memorial pages even helped to catch a gravestone thief. Cemeteries are extremely vulnerable to vandalism, theft, negligent cattlemen, and the damage of time and weather. We appreciate all of the volunteers out there who are working so hard to document them before they are lost to history.

I'm not a numbers addict or collector, but I adhere to Findagrave policy:

◊Find A Grave's primary purpose is a graves registration website.

◊Find A Grave's secondary purpose is a memorialization/remembrance site.

◊Find A Grave's tertiary purpose is a genealogical resource.

Transfers are only made within the guidelines set up by Find A Grave. "The ultimate goal should be to have meaningful, accurate memorials that honor those who have passed away, regardless of who created the memorial or who maintains it." I am willing to consider transferring ownership to you if you have a close family member among my records. I rarely transfer relationships more distant than first cousin... just having someone "in my family tree" or "a relative" will not elicit a transfer.

If you want information added to a memorial, go to the memorial and use the "Edit" tab to send me the information-- including family links. I will add information to the memorial, I do not transfer just because someone wants to add links or other information. Bottom line: what are you planning on doing with the entry that I haven't already done or am unable to do?

On the other hand, if you upload family photos or in some other way add value to the memorial, I am much more willing to transfer. I will always transfer a memorial if you sponsor it.

I welcome all corrections to my own work. Some records were imported using OCR so have inevitable errors, both from the original records and from machine interpretation. I am only human and make mistakes, too, but will always make it priority to correct them.

Please use 'copy and paste' to transfer this book portion to the James Pearl Find A Grave memorial bio.... as you will see this is an open source book meaning it has never been copyrighted.

Son of James Pearl, was born in Ohio in 1829, and came with his father to Oregon in 1852.

Spent the first years of his residence in Linn County in cultivating the soil, but when Halsey was founded, he entered upon commercial pursuits, and in 1876 became a member of the firm of Black, Pearl & Co., and continued so for seven years.

He is now a partner with his son James A. Pearl in the planing mill at Halsey, Linn, Oregon. This establishment was set up in 1872 by Allingham & Connor, but has passed through several changes of Ownership. It is a concern of considerable capacity, having a variety of machinery adapted to fill the needs of the neighborhood. It is driven by steam, and has planing and matching machines, scroll saws, etc.

Mr. Joseph Pearl's children are James A., John R., Orpha J., Silas H., Martha A., Joseph W., Ida C., Alice, Fannie, Olive, and Edmund Cleve.

From the open source book, History of the Willamette Valley - Personal Reminiscences of its Early Pioneers, 1885, Edited by H. O. LANG, Published by Himes & Lang. Portland, Oregon. Page 781.

George W Lakin #100550730
I believe the two sons listed for him is in error. As far as we can find, he had no children. I think the two sons listed, Williard Willis Lakin 22233428 and Samuel Newton Lakin 45773890 belong to George W Lakin #23452157.

If you find my info in error, please tell me the sources of the info. We are Lakin descendants and cannot find that "our" George Washington Lakin, born 1850-1939 had children. Our George was born in Ohio and as a child came to the Oregon Territory where he died and is buried in Lone Fir along with his a couple siblings and his father, Thomas Newton Lakin Sr.

Thanks you! HappyMiss37

William Smith Morse #31533749
I've posted a photo of his crypt marker at Riverview Abbey Mausoleum in Portland. It's unclear whether this, or the marker in Juniper Haven Cemetery, is a cenotaph. It's possible he was initially interred at Riverview Abbey and later moved to Prineville where other family members are buried.

The above-referenced memorial duplicates Find A Grave memorial #45845946, created by Kristie Moore on December 27, 2009. To avoid confusion it should be deleted or merged with the earlier memorial.

Memorial #101728224 Leonard Eldred
Hi again. Was wondering if you could share your source of information on Leonard. I am trying to locate info on his parents, and am having no luck. I have several related to the same parents, but can't locate any info on said parents. Thanks for any help.

RE: Eldred Potter Verry cemetery
These are actually my direct ancestors, too, which is why I went. I did go back to do a couple of very rough rubbings to decipher some of the more deteriorated stones, and plan on going again when I can afford some better supplies. I found 1 stone, but no record of the individual being buried there, so am trying to trace that at the present time. If you would like, since we are apparently both directly connected to this family, maybe we could go to private email, to make communicating a little easier? I am fairly new to Find a Grave, but have been doing some extensive genealogy work, and would love to be able to learn whatever you have, and share anything I may that you might find of value.

no response - Maupin Cemetery
I sent you a private message a couple weeks ago but never heard back. I would like to take over all the Swansons in the Maupin Cemetery in Jefferson County Oregon. That is my family and we have lots to add and corrections to make and missing info to add in. I came upon this website by accident and now would like to be involved since its my family and we are not related to you in any way. Im not trying to send it to a random person to post for me I am capable of doing that my self. So please get back to me soon.
