A Texan's family tree is like a beautiful rose with many fragrant petals, but with any rose, you have thorny branches that needs pruning on occasion....the same goes with families.
Beatitudes of the Family Genealogists:

Blessed are the great grandmothers, who hoarded newspaper clippings and old letters, For they tell the story of their time. Blessed are all the grandfathers who filed every legal document, For this provides proof. Blessed are the grandmothers who preserved family Bibles and diaries, For this our heritage. Blessed are fathers who elect officials that answer letters of inquiry, For some, this is their only link to the past. Blessed are mothers who relate family traditions and legends to the family, For one of her children will surely remember. Blessed are the relatives who fill in family sheets with extra data, For them who owe the family history. Blessed is any family whose members strive for the preservation of records, For theirs is a labour of love. Blessed are the children who will never say, "Grandma, you have told that old story twice today."written by Unknown;

I also try very hard not to 'duplicate', but every now and again, one get's through. Please know that it wasn't intentional. If you'll let me know, I'll delete them.

Mildred Collins
Kersey Family
I just did an edit on the page for Robert Kersey. He died in 1862 not 1882. This is proven by the aapraisement of his estate on 4 Dec 1862.

I also wanted to let you know that there is now a group page on Facebook for the descendants of John Kersey and his wife Ursula Vaughn who are Robert's ancestors. I would like to invite you join. Here is the link:

Find A Grave Memorial# 9585699
Hi Nancy,

Betty Lou Attaway Hamilton was married to my uncle William Hamilton. I saw your post of the newspaper article of her funeral notice and wanted to see if I could get a more complete copy. The one posted on Find a Grave is cut off.

There is also another picture from Elaine Martin Hamilton, who I am wondering how we are related and would like to speak with her.

Thanks for all the work you do.

Rosa Lee Scott
I found the marker for Rosa Lee Scott memorial 142461083. She is buried in Cortznes Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Titus Co. I put a picture of the temporary marker for her. I will watch and when a permanent marker is placed I will put an updated photo. Would you transfer the unknown cemetery to Cortznes Cemetery. Thanks, Howard

RE: Jonne Lewis Coffman
I would never have known if David had not called me.

Joanne graduated in 1953 from RHS - one year after me. Her husband, Ray, was the first guy I met when I moved to Richardson in the summer of 1946 - so I've known them for 71 years.

Hi Nancy,
I tried very hard to find a name but every record including obits of family just have her initials. I suspect she was called Emmy and just never used her real name.

Mary A.E. Johnston

Nancy, I'd appreciate your assistance solving a mystery ... a duplicate it seems. What I want to learn is whether Mary A. E. Johnston is buried in Grassdale Cem., Wheatherford, Parker Co. # 13719608 created by you 24 Mar 2006 or in Grassdale Cemetery, Palo Pinto Co. #106438237 created by D. Stewart 9 Mar 2013. Any light you could shed would be appreciated.

Bill Clayton
Charles C. Clayton
A note posted on along with a close-up photograph of his tombstone says in part, "In a statement made under oath on September 18, 1863 Charles C. Clayton said that prior to the War he had been a farmer and had been born in Jefferson County, Alabama and was age 30."

Are you the author of this? If so, why was he making this statement under oath? Was this on an application for a pension? Any thing you can add would be very helpful.

There were four young men living in Itawamba County, Mississippi; all first cousins and all born in Jefferson County, Alabama. The one who moved to Kaufman County, Texas was a son of Warren Clayton whose name is on the reverse of the tombstone in the Rose Hill Cemetery.

Did this William R. Faulk not have a daughter named Mahala J. born in 1849?
