Bio

I was born in Washington, DC. But, I grew up on my maternal grandparents' small farm in the Landon community, 5 miles north of Gulfport, MS. I am a 1968 graduate of Mississippi State University with a BS degree in chemical engineering and a 1969 graduate of Cornell University with an M(Eng) degree in chemical engineering. I lived in the greater Houston, TX area for 48 years from 1972-2020. My wife (Jane) and I retired in 2012 after long careers in engineering and senior leadership (mine) and information technology and senior leadership (hers). We relocated in August 2020 to Charter House, a retirement community owned and operated by Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. Since retiring, I have been able to spend more time in genealogy and family history research, volunteering in Mayo Clinic's Historical Suite, Heritage Hall and leading History & Heritage tours. We like Rochester a lot, especially the nice people, small town, and easy access to world-class medical services which we know will become even more helpful as we age.

I have been actively involved in genealogy and family history since 2005, and I wish I had started sooner. I am a participant in the WEBB Surname DNA project, and I am actively involved in EDGAR, DICKINSON and HIGH Surname DNA projects. I am a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Sons of the Texas Revolution, and Texas First Families. I also have qualifying ancestors for membership in the Jamestowne Society, the Order of Descendants of Ancient Planters and the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution with applications pending.

Surnames of special research interest include: WEBB, BEWLEY, VON HASSELN, CARTER, MCCORD, DAVIS, MILLER, HIGH, LAWRENCE, ARNOLD, BOBO, BLASSINGAME, EDGAR, WITHERINGTON, WOLLARD, DICKINSON, POWER, KINNISON, MCMANUS, BROWN, MAYS, KELLEY, SMITH, WRIGHT, BATCHELOR, PRIDGEN, DONNELLY, KNOX, DOUGLASS, GOODE, CULPEPPER, GUTHRIE, GARNER, STONE, BLUM, HART, MURPHREE, PATTON, SWISHER, WALTERS, ADAM, MCCLEOD, WYLIE, CLARKSON, COTTER, MEARA, HANRAHAN, MEEHAN, MORAN, TOBIN, NOLAN, MURPHY, EATON and DINES and others, especially in TX, OK, MS, LA, AL, GA, SC, NC, TN, VA, CO, PA, NJ and NY (and England, Scotland and Ireland).

I especially enjoy collaborating with other researchers and finding and sharing more information about our ancestors. Find A Grave has been a wonderful resource for my cousins and me in our ancestral research, and we are trying to increasingly do our parts to contribute.

I continue to be impressed with and inspired by the gracious, cooperative, respectful attitudes of most Find A Grave contributors.
