Bio and Links
Bio Photo I live in Cheshire in the North of England and I have compiled a number of biographies of Agents of the French Section of the Special Operations Executive, who were captured and executed by the Nazis during the Second World War.
If you have come to this site to compile details of your family tree and this does include members of the Special Operations Executive.
If you wish to know more about the work of S.O.E the book by M.R.D. Foot - The Special Operations Executive can be obtained from many libraries in any major town or any University.
If you are tracing your family tree and you have information passed down from family members, concerning a relative being an active member of a Maquis group - or linked to one of the S.O.E. networks. Please note unless your family member joined S.O.E. and was trained in England, records would exist,if not trained in England no-record would exist for this person. Many recruits joined an S.O.E. network and were trained in the field and did use an 'alias'- the work involved was very dangerous carrying messages and equipment to other groups.
When captured many of these brave young men and women gave the alias as their real name. After brutal interrogation by the Gestapo. Many were then executed and buried in nearby woods,in mass graves, some were transported to concentration camps and executed upon arrival, their bodies then placed in the crematorium furnace, and their ashes scattered with other concentration camp prisoners
Because of this procedure being enforced by the nazis-it is not possible to trace numerous people, who died at the hands of the Germans.
Many young men were also deported for forced labour in Germany and were worked to exhaustion, often in the underground factories. When they died were placed in a mass grave.
Many families in France never saw the young male members again, who were sent to Germany for forced labour..

Thanks Paul
Hi Paul, it was an honour to sponsor June's memorial. Really love all the new pictures you have have added. Many of those I have never seen before. Many of the women you see back in the 60s and 70s were just so beautiful I think, June was another. You rarely see women today as beautiful as they were in those days. Take care Paul, and have a great week to come. Jason.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the message, what a surprise you getting an email from Ontario about our family. Even I didn't know the connection you mentioned with Henry V at Agincourt. We will have to get together and we can swap info.

Boris Nemtsov
Thank you for your wonderful contributions to Boris Nemtsov's memorial! I love the pretty candle you left for him today. The two photos you submitted to his memorial are beautiful as well. I especially love the one where he's smiling!

Olga Chekhova
Good morning Paul,

Want to let you know, that I suggested Eileen Dwyer to correct capture to one of the photos she posted to Olga Chekhova memorial page. Ada Chekhova was a daughter of Olga Chekhova, not her sister.

Best regards,

Herbeys neighbour
Re: Eileen Dwyer
So sad and shocked to hear about Eileen through this site. I am not surprised to read the dedications to her as she was very special. Sadly I lost contact with her but used to be her fellow neighbour 'Anglais' in Herbeys near Grenoble. I rescued her cat napoleon once and on approaching her house with him in my arms promptly fell down a manhole . I can still see the tears running down her face as she tried to stop laughing and tend to my wounds. it must have looked so funny when it happened. I know she was writing a book on her life and she said we would be in it and I wonder if she ever finished it. As you know doubt will agree she was a very deep kind person to all and had tribulations in her lifetime. So pleased to hear she was your photo editor another string to her bow. Regret I didn't get in touch with her earlier. I hope she had happiness.
