"What is it about that place that brings tears to your eyes? I tell you, walking through a cemetery and seeing the same names there that I know...oh, it was so poignant." --- Mavis Fruge |
I've been researching my children's ancestors since 1995 when my father gave me a condensed version of his grandfather's diary. (I now have in my possession the full diary which I am slowly but surely transcribing.) I am also fortunate to have photos, documents, and the old family Bible complete with many old family records from my mother's ancestors and I have been deemed the Family Historian by my husband's family and have many photos and documents given to me by his sister for safe keeping.
It is my goal to preserve these photos, records, facts and stories by way of Internet storage where they will remain long after I am gone and to make these things available for the use of future researchers. In this way I hope to honor my ancestors and create interest for my immediate family members who have entrusted me to be the keeper of our past.
Names I am researching include: Allison, Anderson, Bauman, Bishop, Blevins, Bloomer, Boutcher, Brashears, Cook, Cox, Cundiff, Darling, Davis, Delaney, Dungan, Evans, Fletcher, Gollaher, Grabeel, Grunden, Hartzell, Huckstepp, Jackson, Ketcham, Larimer, Leonard, Logsdon, Lord, Martin, Mattingly, McIlvoy, Melvin, Metcalf, Miller, Newby, Osborn(e), Owen, Patterson, Rice, Rogers, Root, Rosenbaum, Runyan, Schiedenhelm, Schmetzer, Smith, Sutton, Townsend, Trowbridge, Tyree, Vaughn, Wallen, Wheaton and many others in areas of Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.

|Marci B||Jimmy Rizzardi|
Jimmy Rizzardi's brother, Gustav, grew up to be Gus Wirtz, Jr., my daughters' great-grandfather. Jimmy's mother Marie Louise Hallet married Gus Wirtz Sr, in 1892, after claiming on the marriage license that her former husband was dead (and it does say that).Sometime later, she apparently returned to Jame Rizzardi. Gus Jr. was aware of all this.He said his real father Gus Sr. lived down the street but never came around. He also said his mother had lied in order to marry Gus Sr. Looking at the census records, it makes us wonder if one of the daughters, Annie, was also Gus Sr's child.

Looks like we may over lap a bit. I have a Hannah Elizabeth Townsend, 32840189, in St Elmo who was the wife of a GG Uncle of mine, 32840191. Both born in Fayette County, IL probably in Avena.
I also have a Nancy Wallen, 19635894, who started out in Hawkins, TN and ended up in Brown County, IN in 1850. She was in my line when married to a LT Elias Weddle before marrying a William Curry.
I may be related to every Taylor in Fayette County in one way or another. The Wallen was a one off'er on my Mom's side. The County Clerk in Vandalia can get you copies of military service DD214's discharge records with a bit of family history. Illinois is weird in that they have a complete VA Department besides everything kept at the US VA level. So if the US doesn't have a record due to water damage try the county in Illinois the person enlisted from.

Lisa: It was my pleasure. I hope the photos will help in locating the stone in the future. It was pretty hard to read, but by rubbing my hand over it several times I was able to brush off all the fungus to expose the lettering enough to get a readable photograph for you.
Thanks for all your hard work in finding parts of your family tree. Your work has been very helpful to me regarding William M. Wallen.

|Carolyn Craig||George and Rebecca Brown in Little BLue River cemetery in Rush County, Indiana|
In their family group of BROWNS buried together in the cemetery ther is the following BROWN...
John William Brown
b. Dec. 29, 1846
d. Sep. 9, 1851
age: 4 years 8 months 11 days
Son of J and R./E. Brown NOTE: The Mothers intial is either R or and E, it is so weather you cannot tell which it is.
This child is probably a descendant of George and Rebecca Sutherland-Brown. All those buried in this group are his descendants.
I can not find them in the census, notice that George had a brother John Brown. Could it be his son? and they just did not stay in the area? Just trying to nail some of the children down to actual parents.
He must be related in some way to George Brown to be buried in the family group. This was a very family oriented cemetery. Many of the same family were buried in the same row, or in rows to the front or back of where their parents were buried.
Any help with this Brown would be appreciated.

I have sent you some additional information on George Brown and Rebecca Sutherland.
|genealogyfever||Cindarella "Rilla" (Whitaker) Ridlen|
I am trying to track down Cindarella "Rilla" (Whitaker) Ridlen, widow of Isaac Newton Ridlen & John C. Trowbridge. I was wondering if you had any information regarding her following the death of John in 1909? I know that she lived until 1951 (or atleast what the Ridlen/Ridlon/Redlon family has written about her), but I can not find a burial location, re-marriage, or her in a census except for 1900 and 1940. In the 1940, she is living as Rilla Trowbridge, 78, with her son, Ira Ridlen and his wife, Della.
