|SGray||Stephen Gantt memorial # 31579247|
The Bio of Stephen Gantt, copied on his FindAGrave memorial has several mistakes: He lived in his cabin for 12 years, not 20; It leaves out the names of his children from each marriage up to the publication in 1881. Below is some additional information and a careful copy of the original book.
Stephen H. Gantt was married first to Eliza Loveridge,(in the bio written 1881, they had 6 children: Martha Burgoon, Cynthia Motley, Mary Jane Sager, 2 died as infants and "Mahlon" died when 16) & (in his will written 1896 he names Mary J Sager and Cintha Mortley as daughters from first marriage). His second wife was Emily Barker (in the bio written in 1881, they had 4 children: Lucy Ellie Corwin, Orlin, Flora Elsie and Alvah) & ( in his will written 1896 he names 5 children with his second wife: Orlin S Gantt, Alvah R. Gantt, Elsie Munson, Bessie Gantt and Ella Corwin)
Will of Stephen H Gantt names his wife, the children of first wife and the children of present wife. Will is dated 1896: "...to my beloved wife Emily Gantt...to Orline S Gantt, Alvah R. Gantt, Elsie Munson, Bessie Gantt, and to the bodily heirs of my daughter Ella Corwin , deceased...THIRD:......to my daughter Mary J. Sagers and to the bodily heirs of my daughter Cintha Mortley, deceased (these daughters being the children by my first wife). FOURTH: to Orlin S Gantt...Alvah R. Gantt...Elsie Munson...Bessie Gantt ...the bodily heirs of Ella Corwin...these five being children of my present wife...SIXTH: Wife Emily Gantt empowered to use not exceeding $100 for the purchase of a tombstone for my daughter Ella Corwin deceased..."dated 1 May 1896; proved 10 September, 1896
History of Knox County, Ohio: Its Past and Present, Containing a Condensed ... compiled by NN HIll, Jr. 1881 found on google books;
"Gantt, Stephen H., Hilliar township, farmer, born in Loudoun county, Virginia, February 16, 1818. His ancestors were Virginians. His father had been a soldier in the War of 1812, and served for some time in Norfolk, Virginia.
In 1835 the parents, Samuel and Mary Gantt, nee Andres, came to Ohio, and settled in Morris township, were they remainded about seven years, then came to Hilliar township, and settled near where their son Stephen now resides, and where they spent their lives, being respected and honored citizens. They had a family of eight children, six of whom are living.
The subject of this short sketch remained at home until he was about 22 years of age. In 1840 he came to where he now resides, and which was some time before his parents came. There were no improvement, woods covered the land, and Mr. Gantt was compelled to do like the early pioneers, build his cabin first for a habitation, and then clear the land of the "giant oaks". He remained in his cabin for about twelve years, enjoying his life as well as ever he did, happy and contented with the result of his labor. He then built his present substantial and comfortable dwelling. He started in life poor, but by industry he has made for himself a competence.
Gantt has been twice married. His first wife was Eliza Loveridge, to whom he was married May 14, 1840. They had a family of six children three of whom are still living viz: Martha, married to Elmer Burgoon, farmer, and resides in Hilliar township; Cynthia, married to Henry Motley, farmer, Hilliar township, and Mary Jane, married to Charles Sager, farmer, in Union county, Ohio. 2 died in infancy and Mahlon died when about 16 years of age.
Mrs. Gantt died May 19, 1858. He was afterwards married to Emily Barker. As a result of this marriage they have a family of 4 children, viz: Lucy Ellie, married to Charles Corwin, and resides in Morrow county, Ohio; Orlin, Flora Elsie and Alvah live at home."

|SGray||Lucy Ella Gantt Corwin|
I tried your email but it's not working. I'm interested to know where the photo of Lucy Ella Gantt Corwin is from originally. I have seen another version of the same photo, I think on
Ancestry.com. She is my daughter-in-law's 4x great grandmother. My 5
year old granddaughter looks amazingly a lot like Lucy!

This is going to be weird but I have a friend, David Bennett, who is looking for lost family members. He has an amazing story but all he has are names of his parents and a few of his siblings. You might be his sister. His other siblings are "Dick", "Andie", and Robert. Please contact me at 616-212-9821 if you have other information for him. He's 76 now. He would greatly appreciate it! He lives in Missouri now.
sent you some edits and links to Riley's in Centerberg Cem. Got dates from readings done by Historical Society in 1960s

You have him buried in Beecher City Cemetery, Fayette County, Illinois. Beecher City Cemetery is in Beecher City, Effingham County, Illinois. Would you please put him in Effingham County Cemetery. Thank you very much.

You are very welcome, Happy New Year

I see that about Maine... but it also says Cortland, which is in NY, not Maine... I can't find any Cortland in Maine (town or county)
Check Jared's 1860 Federal Census. You'll find an Abigail Shed in the household, age 70. That's just the right age to be his mother, mother-in-law, or an aunt -- had you checked that angle yet? Pair that with the 1860 census stating Edward's birth place as Massachusetts, there are a couple Abilgails of that age with connection to that state. I've started looking, but haven't tied things together yet!
I see though that Sarah Ann's father was from Massachusetts, so maybe she went there to give birth(?).

You're welcome to try "Port Allegany" along with my given name and surname to see if that works. However, I don't use Facebook much!
(I tried to email you -- found out why you didn't email me, LOL)
