Bio and Links
Bio Photo I visited Find-A-Grave for years filling in blanks on my family tree. After retirement I decided to become a contributor too (2010) here in central Oklahoma. I took all the small cemeteries in Canadian County and some in Kingfisher County. Now that there are so many volunteers with cell phone cameras, I have given up. I still take photos when I am in Illinois or Kentucky cemeteries.

PLEASE DO NOT ADD SCANS OF OBITS, NEWSPAPER ARTICLES, DEATH CERTIFICATES or any other document to any memorial. I will be happy to transcribe them and add them to the bio section if you send them to me. There are only 5 allotted spaces for pictures on each memorial. By adding documents as scanned images on the memorial, you are possibly preventing someone else from adding a personal photo that you don't have. In addition IT IS AGAINST FIND-A-GRAVE RULES and can be removed. Thank you.

For Obits in the Johnson County Indiana and surrounding counties that are not included on memorials, or for obits of people who do not have a known burial location, see this link:

THANK YOU to all of you who have posted the many old obits we have sent you. We have had many comments of appreciation from descendants. Some of these old obits told intimate and/or historical details about the person and those are very valuable to researchers.

Mark McCrady is working diligently to cull these old obits from newspapers at the Indiana State Library, find burial locations and photograph stones, and I am working many hours a day transcribing them. Lois Johnson, Johnson County INGENWEB Coordinator, is placing these obits on her site (above) so they can be shared with family.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to find burial locations for all of these people, but you may find their obits on her site.

To all of you who will not post these old obits we send you, F/G has relaxed what they used to say about it and any obit dated before 1922 is in the PUBLIC DOMAIN and there is no copyright on them:

Can I add a memorial from a newspaper or other 3rd party source?
Find A Grave does not discourage the legitimate indexing of the deceased through obituaries or other 3rd party accounts. Newspapers represent a very good source of information as a public record. What we ask is that those who index and memorialize the deceased from newspapers and other 3rd party accounts do so with full respect of copyright, refrain from adding information about living people, and respond generously to the family of the deceased.

1. Take a photo of the entire tombstone first, then get a close-up of the name if it is hard to read on the whole view. Try to fill the frame with the stone and not the surrounding countryside, homes, cars, etc.
2. Look for your reflection or shadow in the tombstone BEFORE you take the picture! Stand to the side to prevent reflection.
3. Squat in order to get on the same level as the tombstone - don't stand and shoot down at a sharp angle.
4. If the stone is vertical, take the picture vertically - it will display on the memorial much larger than horizontally. PLEASE DO NOT put the picture up sideways!!! This is very disrespectful!!
5. Invest in a good camera and an editing program like Photoshop Elements to adjust contrast and crop and straighten the image.
6. Remember that now F/G allows an 8MB size on photos.

We are trying to preserve history so we want the very best pictures possible - it may be all that survives!

** My photos may be used for any nonprofit purpose - ONLY IF - you give credit by listing your source so others can find it. Noting the source INCLUDES the photographer's name, and the Find-a-Grave memorial number or website.**

ILLINOIS - Mingee, Thornton, Gilreath, McNeese, Harris, Strader, McCrady

To Find a Grave Administrators: In the event of my death, please transfer management of all of my memorials to Mark McCrady, member 47714241.

RE: Wilson Cem in Green Co, KY.
Glad you weren't the one who posted the coordinates! I really didn't think it would have been you. For next time, you can go to the Find A Grave Forum and look for Cemetery Corrections, click on that and scroll down to the bottom to add your comment. Be sure to give them the link to the particular cemetery or they won't do anything. It has been nice chatting with you.

RE: Wilson Cem in Green Co, KY.
Well, we spent half our day today going around in circles. We went to coordinates listed on Find A Grave for the Wilson Cemetery and ended up south of Greensburg at what we later discovered was the called the Wilson Family Cemetery on Twelve Oak Rd. There were only 20 burials, so we knew we were in the wrong place. Made a trip to Campbellsville (Greensburg's library was closed) to see if the library could help. Turns out the SAME coordinates were used for both the Wilson Cemetery on Gabe-Wilson Cemetery Road and the Wilson Family Cemetery on Twelve Oak. I will send a correction to Find A Grave with what we now have as correct for the Wilson Cemetery in Gabe. It is a nice cemetery (circa 700 burials) and as you said, some very old stones to the far right. You did a great job of covering all the legible markers with photos. Didn't find any on the request list because they almost all died before 1900 and were probably those with just a rubble stone for a marker. Anyway, the coordinates were a problem, but we feel good that we can correct it easily. It was worth the trip from the nearby counties.

RE: Wilson Cem in Green Co, KY.
Thanks for your reply. We are on a trip and did decide to venture up and spent today near Puryear, Tennessee. We are doing a few other cemeteries in Hart, Taylor and LaRue Counties in Kentucky, so we may just take a gander at Wilson Cem in Green County anyway. But we won't expect to find anything based on your comments. Appreciate the help. Diane

Wilson Cem in Green Co, KY.
I noticed that you added a photo of Luther Druin/Dreun's grave marker in Wilson Cem in Green Co, KY. I wondered if you photographed all the possible Druin (& various other spellings) burials in this cemetery when you visited there? I have a relative named Johnnie Druin, who died in 1896, buried there, but he does not have a grave marker photo. Would it be worth my while to drive from Mississippi up to Kentucky to see if he has a grave marker to photograph?

George Washington Prosser
hi, would you mind transferring George Prosser #63846474 to me? I intend to remove the ads & increase picture capacity by sponsoring his memorial. I'd like to maintain it as well.

Thank you...

RE: Adelia Stanton Obituary
Yes, I did notice her name as Cordelia. Had to call my mother to find out if that was her actual given name. My ggrandmother's middle name was Adelia, so my grandmother thought that her name was actually Adelia.
