Bio and Links
Bio Photo Hi,

I am a retired veteran and genealogist. I work on Fort Knox so I have opportunities to visit some cemeteries on post and in Hardin County, KY.

If you would like to have a memorial transferred to you, please let me know by using the Edit tab and sending me a note.

I take the time to go to the cemeteries, take and post headstone pictures so family researchers can find their ancestors, so if you use my photographs and post them on any for-profit web sites (ex, Ancestry.com, etc), please give me credit.

RE: Cemetery Question
The problem with that (in this case, not necessarily with others) is that the stats are not the same for the two names and the memorials I'm interested in are for the same person but are definitely NOT duplicate memorials and thus very misleading. Should I submit edits to make them true duplicates for this one person? Your recommendation would be appreciated.

Cemetery Question
James, do you know if there are actually two cemeteries in Hardin County with the names Mount Zion Baptist Church Cemetery and Mount Zion Cemetery? Find A Grave shows both, with the church cemetery being more than 10 times larger in terms of numbers of graves. Both have only a "Hardin County" address but I can find verifiable information only for the church cemetery.

I became curious when I found memorials 67395940 and 66470180, which appear to be for the same person but have a little different information. Since you have taken & posted photos, I believe you memorial is most correct, and I've submitted and edit to add his parents and siblings references.

Thanks,
Clayton Raney

Archive
Do you know if Ft. Knox has an archive or history library the public can access on base? I've been meaning to see if I can locate any records that may be there for land in what to used to be called the Woodland or Grahamton area (deeds or records about the purchases made in the 1930s). My ancestors lived on land near the confluence of Otter Creek and Dry Branch for many generations. I read your profile and didn't know if you may know. I didn't really know where to start. I have visited cemeteries on Memorial Day and visited the old homestead (the foundation was still there about 20 years ago).

Autocorrect
Sorry -- a few errors in that note. Autocorrect does it every time.

The third paragraph last word should read "grandmother."

In the last paragraph, "forth" should be "far" and the "a" after American should be "at."

RE: Presidential Connections
My 7th maternal great grandfather, Richard Woodward (1670-1756) is Barack Obama's 9th great grandfather on his maternal side.

My 7th great maternal grandfather, Thomas Lucas (1688-1756) is Michelle Obama's 8th paternal great grandfather.

My 8th great maternal grandmother, Mary Rhoades (1655-1692) is George H. W. Bush's 8th great paternal grandfather.

Most of my mother's family lines trace back to a Virginia settlement in the 1600s, so I have a lot of shared ancestors with well known Americans. One of my father's lines, the Folsom line in New Hampshire, traces back to 1638 (they arrived on the Diligent). I have deep ancestry in both the North and the South. If you can trace your pedigree back that forth, given the tiny population of America a the time, you'll find you're likely related to many, many people.
