Bio and Links
Bio Photo In early 2015, the Golden Gate National Cemetery Photography Project completed its 3-year-long effort. The cemetery, located in San Bruno, San Mateo County, California, is now 99.96% photographed, with less than 50 inscriptions that need to be photographed.

Since March 2015, I have been photographing the markers in the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma, San Mateo County, California. Only 22% of the 355,000 markers there have been photographed. Many of the burials are reinterments from the now defunct Calvary Cemetery in San Francisco. I am currently posting photographs in Section V: For Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery the San Francisco Genealogy website is invaluable:

http://www.sfgenealogy.com/php/cemetery/cemeteryindex.php?

I add new memorials as need be and add missing information and links.

Please contact me if you have taken a better photograph of a headstone for a memorial (e.g., with better lighting), and I will be happy to remove my photo.

Golden Gate National Cemetery Credits:

FAG members Samme Templin, Theresa Miller, Christine S., and Cindy S. helped post the photos.

FAG contributor Stewart Blandon completed Section 2E. Stewart also created an excel spreadsheet for the burials in the cemetery that has been vital for the project. Stewart and Kathleen Clemence added plot information to memorials.

FAG contributor Kathleen Clemence completed Section R.

FAG contributor Christine and Winmar finished photographing and posting photos from Section MA.

Notes on the Golden Gate National Cemetery:

Section A: Redo north facing markers starting with A-133.

Section E: Contains markers for 45 graves of German and Italian prisoner of war from World War II; there also about 100 graves of servicemen who died between 1865 and 1910.

I am currently interested in the Brocher, Lahey, Williamson, Weber, and Grumann families of eastern Wisconsin, particularly Manitowoc County.

I am also researching Nuzum, Wright, Wheeler families of western Wisconsin.

Finally, I am researching Welch, Belden, Dunbar familiies of southeastern Minnesota.

Thank you so much for the photo of my grandmother's grave marker. I have never visited it and hope to someday. Nice to know it is still there.

Tom,
I forgot to add, William's sister, Sophie Matilda "Jessie" (Bessette) Noonan was born Dec. 11, 1869 in Champlain, NY, then William Mar. 26, 1871.
I believe their births are printed in St. Mary's Church, Champlain, Clinton, NY book of births, deaths and marriages. I'll take a look, I have the book here.

Good afternoon Tom,
You asked about the correct birth date William Peter Bassett Find A Grave# 87784060. Thank you for adding the headstone photo William.

The date on the headstone is an error. Correct birth date is on his memorial which came from the late Dorothy (Bassett) Hauschild who was directly related and a former President of the Western Mass. Genealogy Society.

Long story for this Bassett/Bessette family. William's father Jean Pierre Bessette (correct spelling) murdered his wife Sophia (Lamontagne) Bessette (William's mother) in their rented apartment crushing her skull with the back of an ax while she slept in Ludlow, MA.after they went to Christmas Mass so some of the family changed the spelling of the last name so no one would connect them to the scandal.
William Peter Bassett moved to Bridgeport, CT then to California to get away. Back then William and some of of the other family didn't want anyone to know they were related. Possibly the birth year wasn't known by the family member who handled the burial.

RE: Annie Demates
Tom, you're absolutely right ... thx for the fix! I've been confined to my bed/house for at least 10 days now with the super allergy "bug" that's hitting a lot of Bay Area folk ... tain't fun! I'm still so curious about that question I posed to you here re Arthur Sullivan's grave position in my context photo. I had hoped to go out there & check myself but, alas, been sleeping in a spare bedroom (keeping that coughing, etc. away from my dear wife). If you're by that way, please it if another look-see.
Thanks!
Gerry
