Northwest Indiana mother of 3... Dedicated to preserving the memory and posterity of our ancestors, and I also enjoy learning about myself from the past, and also helping others to connect the dots as well.|
I am particularly interested in advocating for more respectable conditions for Oak Hill cemetery in Hammond, IN. My interest is personal as my family is buried on this historic, hallowed grounds. For more info:
* All existing headstones in the ground for Oak Hill have already been photographed and Memorials created, unless they have passed after 2014.
If you are local and are interested in donating to Oak Hill, consider donating flowers, perrennials, work gloves, Menards gift cards, or even your time pulling weeds and helping to maintain the improvements to the grounds.
The South Shore Civil War Memorial Trail will help replace broken or worn headstones for Civil War Veterans and their wives. The organization will also help provide GAR Medallions, QR codes, and Special Markers for Wounded Veterans. Each Special Marker cost approximately $250.00 and each Medallion is roughly $10.00 and also comes with a fresh American Flag. These could not be possible without donations from the public.
South Shore Promotions Inc. is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization affiliated with the South Shore Convention and Visitors Authority.
I will gladly take photos at St. Mary's and Maplewood Cemeteries in Crown Point, and will attempt to fulfill other requests on other cemetery adventures. I thank you all for your time!

The information you have on East Chicago PD Officer Paul Budich isn't entirely accurate. His assailant Jose Castro was not executed. He was sentenced to death on May 24, 1924. However, after several stays of execution, Governor Jackson commuted the sentence to life on May 27, 1925. Castro died in prison on July 7, 1929 and is buried at the prison cemetery: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gr&GSln=castro&GSfn=jose&GSbyrel=all&GSdy=1929&GSdyrel=in&GSst=17&GScntry=4&GSob=n&GRid=63100678&df=all&

Your very welcome. Actually the day I took it the weather was beautiful, almost 70! This freaky February in NW Indiana has spoiled us for spring! I was going out to visit my family and was just walking when I saw him. I always carry a little broom to sweep off military stones and others that are in need. I will be going back to get the rest off my list my next day off.
Thanks for volunteering and your time and effort in getting the photo, even though no headstone.
Kara, Thank you very much for the photo other her gravestone and the cemetery record of her burial. I truly appreciate it. Thank you, Innis

|Christine Musgrave||Mc Gary Family buried in Oak Hill|
Hello again Kara!
I just wanted to 'add' to the McGary family name list for Oak Hill Cemetery.
The 'boys' parents, Clarence Willard McGary and Bessie Aldasy Musgrave McGary are also listed (via their death certificates) to also be buried in Oak Hill.
Bessie died 15 March 1948 and Willard died 5 July 1948.
There is quit a mystery on this family and only a daughter in law and two very young grandaughters survived Willard [who was the last to pass away].
SO hope you can possibly see from your records how many people could have been or bar buried on the family plot area with Carl!
THANKS again for all your hope!

|Christine Musgrave||Carl and Clarence McGary|
Thanks for the help you could offer on Clarence Gordon McGary's grave. [you could not find a record of the place where he is buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
You mentioned that you had found cards on 'Carl' and "Donald". Carl is Clarence Gordon's brother that dies a long time before and I am sure that is a possibility that he would be buried with Carl but odd there is no record. It was a sudden death for Clarence at an early age and there were issues with his wife and the rest of Gordon's family so possibly things all went off for the information that should have been recorded!?
I also understand there are no tombstones for either of the boys and wondered if it is an area where things in the cemetery was destroyed? Can you tell? or are you just looking in a book of that recorded the places of where people were buried in what plot!?
Do you have any other ideas?

Thanks for going the extra mile and posting the photo of Nellie Hanna's burial card. I have some additional information on Nellie and will send an update for the memorial. Thanks again.
Thanks. I'll have to get him a headstone when the spring comes. Thank you for your help.
