Ilene Pearl Shinn
NORTHWOOD | Ilene Pearl Shinn, 92, Northwood died Thursday, Oct. 16, 2014, at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

A funeral service for Ilene will be held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, 2014, at Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. South, Northwood, Pastor Shirley Hoffmann Will officiating.

Burial will be in the Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the chapel.

Those wishing to give a memorial in her memory, may wish to consider memorial contributions be made to the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood or to Hospice of North Iowa.

Ilene Pearl Shinn was born on Feb. 2, 1922, the daughter of Elmer and Jean (Brown) Shinn in Northwood. She received her education in Northwood community schools. She was united in marriage to Lyle Shinn on June 14, 1943, and to this marriage two children were born Janet and David. Lyle preceded her in death in January 1977. Ilene worked at the Rexall Drug Store, Ver Helst Drug store, Viking and Midway restaurants in Northwood, as well as other restaurants in the North Iowa area.

Ilene was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Northwood, past president of the United Methodist Women, past county president of the Smith-Perry Unit of the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Ilene did a lot of volunteering for R.S.V.P.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Janet (Glenn) Smeby of Marion, Iowa, and David (Cheryl) Shinn of Burlington, Iowa; five grandchildren, Matthew (Dawn) Shinn, Michael (Jennifer) Shinn, Brian (Kam) Smeby, Chad (Laura) Smeby, and Jason (Susan) Smeby; eight great-grandchildren, Isaac and Eli, Carter, and Claire Shinn, Rhiannon, Cameron, Devon, and Brianna Smeby; two sisters, Lorraine Berg and Ruth Perry, both of Albert Lea, Minnesota; a brother, Lawrence (Yvonne) Perry of Winona, Minnesota; many nieces, nephews; and other extended family members and friends.

Ilene was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lyle; brothers, Donald, Dale, Earl, and Gerald Perry; two great-grandchildren, Anna Grace Shinn, and Chloe Shinn; brother-in-law, Arthur Berg; and a nephew, Kenneth Berg.

I came across Mr. Nicholson's obituary. I know some contributors do not use them, but I wanted you to have it in case you wish to use it as his Bio.

Thomas Frank Nicholson passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2016, at the age of 50. He was born on December 18, 1965, in Houston, Texas, to Frank Martindale Nicholson and Gayle M. Thomas Nicholson. Thomas was currently employed with Jones Lang LaSalle.

He is survived by his brother, William Nicholson of Pompano Beach, Florida; and his two sisters, Hannah Finn of Pasadena, Texas, and Rebecca Smith of Katy, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents.

The family will hold a private memorial service at a later date.
