(John C. Carter)|
(Will be spending part of the summer in southwestern Maine).
Happy to photograph at any cemetery in the Tampa Bay, FL area! (or in the Lakes Region of SW Maine).
Born in Dover, DE, (to parents from NJ & WV), I lived in southern CA until age 12, & then in Raton, (a small town in N.E. New Mexico), which I consider my home town. I attended NM State Univ for 4 years (with a 1-yr exchange to Oregon State Univ), but did not complete a degree at that time, & later moved back to southern CA, settling in the Orange County area. After 10 yrs in the O.C., I moved to St. Petersburg, FL (Tampa Bay area) in 1990, & have been here ever since.
I have avidly worked on my family's genealogy since the age of 15 ... 43 years ago!
I am a 28-yr member (and former chapter registrar) of the SAR (Sons of the American Revolution) with 7 qualifying ancestors submitted (more to come!), a member of the SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) with 10 qualifying ancestors or brothers of ancestors (more to come!), a member of the SVR (Sons of Veterans Reserve--affiliated with the SUVCW), a member of the S&DUSCT (Sons & Daughters of U.S. Colored Troops), a member of the Nanticoke Lenni-Lenape Indians of New Jersey, and an associate member of the Lenape Indian Tribe of Delaware.
(Click on my profile pic above to read the story of the Civil War ancestor with whose headstone I'm posing).
I'm very proud that every single branch of my ancestry has been in America since at least pre-Revolutionary times.
Having taken numerous college courses over the years, I finally bit the bullet & enrolled in a program in 2003 to complete my degree, & graduated from Eckerd College (a local, private, liberal arts college) in May 2005 with a B.A. in Creative Writing.
Besides genealogy & writing, my other interests include: clock collecting, books, movies, photography, geocaching, the Civil War, the space program, many types of music, & visiting cemeteries!
Thanks to the creators of this site for doing such a great job!

Thank you so much. I've just started this side of the family. There seems to be a lot of family members in and around that part of the state. Thank you so much.
Thanks for the photo and your time! Much appreciated!
Thank you for looking for the stones.
|Lucille Stephan||RE: Your edit suggestion for Lucille M. Stephen Ivory|
John, In answer to your question regarding my source for the correction of the spelling of the Stephan name is that she was my Father's sister and thus my Aunt. Our name has been spelled incorrectly many times but the correct spelling is and has always been Stephan. Hopefully this will answer your question.
Your edit suggestion for Lucille M. Stephen Ivory
I received your edit-suggestion to change the spelling of Lucille's maiden name from Stephen to Stephan. However, the 1930 census as well as several family trees & photographs from family members on Ancestry.com all spell her name as Stephen. What is your source that the name should be spelled differently?

Hello -- I am trying to find chitwood relatives in Scott County - is the Tramell Cemetery noted as being in Jellico Creek the same one as the Trammell Cemetery in Winfield?
I have the above Ernest listed in both cemeteries - in the "Jellico Creek" Trammell cemetery his Memorial # is: 11240606
The listing in the Winfield Trammell Cemetery is: Memorial# 40284511
They appear to be the same person.
Thanks, judy arnn-knight

Hey,John,I've been on vacation and checked my e-mails and saw the beautiful photos of the FITCH family in Bridgton,Maine. They are wonderful and I appreciate them so much. I also read about your great great grandfather and our govt. honoring him with a memorial stone. What a great, uplifting story! PS......My husband and I didn't know that one of the Fitch sons was a Civil War vet until we saw your photo!!! Blessings,Susan
