"We actually don't fear death. We fear that no one will notice our absence, that we will disappear without a trace". (unknown)|
People come to Find a Grave for many reasons; genealogy, curiosity, closure. People volunteer on Find a Grave for many reasons; genealogy, curiosity, closure. Sadly, some are in a contest to see how many memorial pages they can put in, mistakes and all, and they hold tight to those pages they've created even if they aren't related to them at all…for them it's all about the numbers.
My friend, Melinda Fowler, and I started doing this for our own families and then it quickly became something bigger…it was about other people's families. We have gotten such satisfaction out of fulfilling requests and everyone is so grateful. But it is "we" who are grateful for the opportunity to honor your relatives. We're not in this for the count, but for the gratification in connecting relatives and for recognizing the need to say "I WAS HERE".
p.s. I take a lot of random pictures in the Danbury, CT and Westchester County, New York area. If I should happen to run into your family and you would like to take ownership, by all means let me know and it's done. Families should stay together!

My family and I have loved having the photo you took, of my grandmother's grave. It is a nice stone, though not what my mom wanted or paid for. That makes me glad she never knew.
On the other hand, I'm pretty sure my grandmother would really like it, as I do. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your taking it. I doubt I will ever see it in person. I've sent it to everyone, I can think of. She'd be pleased that we have all seen it now. It seemed sad that we hadn't.
You made me happy!

Yes, it was a beautiful day. Although the wind did make it a little chilly, the wind helped the flag to flap beautifully. Best, Helen

Hello from Utah. Based on my understand of what you said, I think you have given permission for me to use your nice picture of Stephen's headstone in my Ancestry.com file and I will put it on my Stephen Hopkins page in my personal genealogy website, and I will credit you for the use of it. Thank you so much. He was my 5th Great Grandfather. I will visit Amenia this fall for the first time.

This is from the author T.S. Elliot (although it was newly popularized in the tv show Bones.)
Thanks for posting it -- it reminded me how much I like Elliot, and how long it's been since I've read him.
