|Mike Warren||Old Broad River|
Hi Ron my name is Mike Warren. Just wanted to let you know I sent an email to you regarding the Warren Family, just in case it might go to your spam/junk folder. The subject line is "findagrave-warren family". It was a little lengthy so I didn't know if I should post it on the findagrave message board.
Hope this message finds you well and I look forward to possibly hearing back from you.

My Step-Father, Arthur Paul Lawter, died September 15,2016 in Chesnee, SC. He was the Great-Grandson of Samuel Carson Lawter and Rebecca Jackson Lawter. Rebecca Jackson Laughter's picture looks like she was Native American, and one of her daughters had an Indian-sounding nickname, "Tonto Jane". Do you have any information about a Native American background for her?

Hi.. have a question about this memorial. In the bio you said Thomas died before 1900. Yet you have a death date of Jan 14, 1907. Just curious where that date came from. Thomas was gg grandfather

Based on location and date of death I believe this Richard Searcy was born 8-21-1738 the son of John Searcy Sr. and Phoebe Hargrave Searcy. He was a brother of my 4th great Grandfather, John Searcy Jr.

Elzira Catherine shows as dying in 1849, but she appears in the 1860 census in the home of her son Larkin Freeman.

John Owenby was the son of Arthur Owenby and mother unknown. John was born in England in 1735. He and his father Arthur made the long ocean voyage from England to the Colonies of England in present day United States. Where they landed is not known but they were in Essex County Virginia Colony in the latter part of Arthurís life. John moved from Virginia before Aug 16 1784 and settled in Rutherford County North Carolina. The reason for this statement is that all the children born to John and Nancy before Nancy Ann Owenby were born in Virginia and all after her were born in Rutherford Co. NC. I feel that John and Nancy met and married in Orange Co. Virginia where Nancy Porter was born. It appears her father Ambrose Porter and mother Jemima Smith Porter both died in Virginia. It is documented that Jemima died there in 1818. John and Nancy were listed as living in Henderson Co. at the time of their deaths but with the changing county lines during this era of history they may have settled in an area of Rutherford County that became Henderson County. They appeared to prosper in the mountains of Western North Carolina and had twelve known children. It is thought that John was the first person buried in the Owenby Family Cemetery that is now known as the Old Field or Old Broad River Cemetery. I know that the property was once owned by John and it was passed down to a descendant Eli Mitchell Owenby who sold the property to Squire Thomas Ledbetter. At that point the cemetery became known as the Old Field Cemetery and Old Broad River Cemetery. This cemetery lies in Buncombe County North Carolina today but in the past it was in McDowell County, and Rutherford County and possibly Henderson County. It confuses researchers who use the Census to determine where there ancestors lived. John and Nancy may have lived in the same house in WNC their entire lives but if you go by Census reports they moved to several different counties over the years. The children of John and Nancy Porter Owenby are:
1 James born Jan 6 1761 and married Joanna Sims (see James story)
2 Elizabeth born 1763 and married Powell Stamper Owenby
3 Millie born 1766 and married unknown
4 Susannah born 1868 and married unknown
5 Ambrose born 1870 and married Elizabeth Henson
6 Arthur born 1871 and married Barbara Hill (see Arthurís story)
7 Porter William born 1774 and married Martha Ann Morgan
8 Thomas born 1776 and married Winnie Shelton
9 John Jr born Jul 11 1781 and married Elizabeth Hill
10 Nancy Ann born Aug 16 1784 and married a Hill
11 Joseph Porter born Feb 22 1788 and married unknown
12 Nicholas born 1790 and married unknown
