|I have been investigating my family history since 1985, when my mom's uncle shared photos of my 3great, 2great, & great grandparents. Dad & I spent his 50th birthday visiting his cousins in Montana and Canada, where everyone shared, though each told us the others wouldn't. I have had the luck to find other family members also interested in genealogy; now I have over 40 albums filled with photos, documents, letters, etc. I follow collateral lines way too far, but have connected with many cousins because of this. I've done my share of cemetery exploration and LOVE the ideas behind this site.|

|Connie Rifenburg||RE: Bernice Althea Dain (Waters?)|
Thanks for the information Linda! That makes sense now, yet I can't find a marriage certif. for Bernice and her Waters cousin. I'll continue to look but it helps to know why Waters came back into the family.
I am related through Lucina Waters who married Hiram VDoran Rifenburg and who's son is Cassius Lyman Rifenburg, my great grandfather. Cassius was my grandfather's dad on my father's side. Cassius had 2 sons and a daughter, Lucina Minerva Rifenburg, Cassius HHenry Rifenburg, and Paul Almond Rifenburg. I knew my great aunt "Lou" very well as a child but was only 8 yrs old when my grandfather Paul Sr. died. I remember him, but not as much as Aunt Lou. I believe Aunt Lou must have been named after Lucina Minerva Waters. Lucina Waters was a daughter of David Waters and Chole Hitchcock.
This is why I see you on so many of my ancestors trees as I am Paul Rifenburg, Jr. daughter, Connie Rifenburg. Thank you for posting so many photos of this side of the family as I have none further back than my grandfather Paul Sr.
I have met some Rifenburgh's on line that are 4th cousins and we have a few of our line that still spelled it with a (gh)for a short time before my dad was born in 1922.
So we are definitely cousins who is my 3rd great grandmother. I have met several cousins on my mother's side on Facebook also as their great grandfathers were brothers to MY great grandfather Benjamin Franklin Mathis (maternal line). We keep in touch through facebook and I have found out so much about my mother's side of the family since she was basically an only child (had a brother we learned was adopted) She died never knowing that - he died at age 12. I love that I'm finding so much of the family, I only wish I had started this earlier. There's only two of my father's generation left, and then my sister age 68 and me 66. Then the "old" gang is gone.
If I can help on anything, please let me know, or if I have connected someone in error, please let me know too. I'm the only one doing this in the family...started in 2006.
|Connie Rifenburg||Bernice Althea Dain (Waters?)|
Hi Linda, I see you on many of our common relatives. I wondered if you can explain the name that Bernice Althea used for her social security death. It is listed as Waters, which is her mother's maiden name. Her mother was married to Almon Wade Dain when she was born (and another sister) and I don't see a marriage for her, yet Ohio deaths 1908-1932 list her as a "widow". Somewhere along the way there was a "phelps" last name in there but I can't confirm anything on that since it looks like Velma, her sister also had the last name of Phelps.
So.... Did Bernice keep changing her name during her life time? She is listed in the Astabula obituary as MRS.Bernice A Waters (as if she was married to a Waters) HELP!!
Here memorial is 40618876 Thanks for any help

Just started looking for ancestors and found you had put flowers on My Grandfathers grave, Charles W Paterson. I am having a great deal of difficulty finding anything about his parents or siblings. May I ask how you are related and if you have any info you can share?
