Bio and Links
Bio Photo For thirty plus years I have been involved in genealogy. When my mother died, she left some notes about a few ancestors she had uncovered and hoped I would continue her research. That was the hook-in-the-jaw that changed my life. I only regret that I have missed out on so many years that I could have used. Alas, all those family stories that went in one ear and out the other, and all those family members who took so much information to the grave with them.

I am, however, thankful for the tools that are now available and for FindAGrave, a platform that I have spent many hours gaining from and contributing to.

If I have created a memorial for a member of your family in your direct line, who isn't related to me, and you can add a biographical sketch I will be glad to transfer it to you. Many have received a transfer/transfers & have never added anything. This isn't fair to kin who may come along later who can do so. I will not transfer in mass numbers.

I can be more lenient in transferring outside of FindAGrave guidelines if you can assure me that you have a substantial amount of information to add to a bio - not just a short notation.

Margaret McPherson Hankins
I see that you maintain and have added a lot of information to Maggie's memorial. #28078330 I'm assuming you are family. If not, I apologize for bothering you.

I came across a tintype photo of Maggie and her son, Elmer Hankins, as a baby, on Etsy and thought you might be interested.

RE: Margillia Clemmons Dwyer
Oh wow, I had never heard of this book! That's interesting information. I asked about the mulatto reference since everyone in my family, as well as distant cousins who are also researching Nancy Ann, has said she was Cherokee. Going by the 1850 census for Washington Co.,AR, Harriet would have been 14 or so when she gave birth to Margillia. Fascinating stuff for sure but I'm coming to accept that it will probably remain a mystery :( Thanks for responding and sharing the excerpt.

Margillia Clemmons Dwyer
Hi Virginia,

I've been researching William Carroll and Harriet (Clemmons) Owens for some time now and have always wondered about the parentage of Margillia/Margaret and Nancy Ann (I'm a direct descendant of Nancy Ann). The 1860 census for Margillia and the Bell husband lists her as "Mulatto". Just wanted you take on this. If Harriet and William Carroll were both white, then it makes one wonder which one of them had children with a Native American. I had always wondered if they were the offspring of William and a Native American woman. Also, what specifically pointed you to them being with Harriet before her marriage to William? Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.... Jennifer
