Bio and Links
Bio Photo I have been researching my family history since I was in junior high school, and was very fortunate to have access to a lot of family records. As a child I was extremely scared of cemeteries, but as I grew in to my teenage years and became more intensely involved in my research, I found myself tromping through a lot of cemeteries. Unfortunately, I found so many monuments that were barely legible, and thought then I should try to transcribe as many as possible so that others could find their family members too. Though I have been researching for over 30 years now, I am fortunate that I still find new cousins quite regularly. I hope that some of my postings will help others to find their relatives.

I want to thank my family who have helped me transcribe in the early days, then assist with photos in more recent years. Not many spouses and/or siblings are willing to go to a cemetery on a freezing cold Thanksgiving day to help transcribe and/or take pictures but mine do.

If you find anything that needs to be corrected, please let me know, and we will resolve this together. If you are a family member of one I have transcribed, and I am not, I will be happy to transfer your family member to you. I believe family members should be able to take care of their family memorials here, just as if you were taking care of the actual cemetery regardless of how closely you are related.

If you are a "cousin" I would love to hear from you and exchange information. Some of my direct family surnames are: Borders, Botner, Harman/Harmon, Houchin, Jackson, Pearman, Peery, Short, Smith, Taylor, and Thorne on my father's side and Benke, Clark, Denisiuk and Piper on my mother's side. And my husband's side include Matuse, Privette, Davis, and Boykin.

And lastly, if you would like to copy any pictures, please let me know, and if you add it to a family tree, please note it came from me. I have seen many of my photos on with no mention that the photo was mine. Thanks.

Change made as soon as I stopped scratching my head trying to recall how I made such a silly mistake.

My grandmother's parents are Susannah Abbott #63967956 and James Abbott #63967643. Would you consider transferring them to me so that I can connect them to my family? Thank you Hopeful

Correction made. I was confusing the original request for Louisa Lavisa with his.

As I stated in the comment box the gravestone reads LASWELL, one S, not two. I cannot correct the gravestone. If I change it suit you then there will be others who say it should be one S.

RE: Vernon H. Botner
Thanks for answering my message. The only one I haven't been able to find information is his brother Jim or James Botner. I know he was killed by the train also before Vernon. I think he was on top of a boxcar and they jerked the train to move it knocking him off.

Vernon Botner
Hi again. I received your message. I have been looking everywhere trying to find info on his brother James (I think). I know he had a brother who was also killed while working for the train company. He was on top of the boxcars working and the train suddenly started knocking him off and killing him. But I can't find any info on him at all. But it might have been a brother-in-law, I was very young but remember him talking about it. I know his sister's husband died young and she remarried. She had two kids: Betty Jean and Bobbie Burgess. Do you know anything about them?

Vernon H. Botner
Just wanted to know I appreciated all the information you posted on Vernon H. Botner. I am his step-daughter, Geraldine "Gerri" Basinger. He married my mother, Alice May (Anderson) Pounds in 1949, when I was 6 years old and he died in the train accident a little over one month after I got married in Oct, 1962. Even though he was my stepfather, he was always Dad to me. My real father was killed in Invasion of Normandy, and mom was married a short time twice before she married Vernon. I didn't even remember them because I was too young.
Mom remarried many years later to Russell Bevers of Bedford and John Gatin of Clinton, and they are both deceased now. Mom is buried next to Dad in Cresthaven Memory Gardens, south of Bedford, where I live. He didn't have any biological children of his own, just me. Hope this helps. I have only been working on ancestry about one year.
