Bio

As an author and researcher, I've been the beneficiary of the knowledge and assistance of thousands of historians and genealogists. I am happy to pay these favors forward. Please note:

* You are welcome to share my photos among family members. Photo credit is appreciated but not required.

* Accuracy is important to me, and I consider most memorials to be works-in-progress. If you spot errors, please let me know *respectfully.* Disrespectful messages will be deleted without response.

* If you send me additional information to add to memorials, INCLUDE YOUR SOURCE/DOCUMENTATION. If you submit edits without documentation, expect that I will take time to check your info, and that may slow their processing. I welcome edits but am only able to process them as my work and family obligations allow.

* Please do not send frivolous, tomato-tomahto edits; I will decline them. Examples: Section 1 vs Sec 01, Baby vs Infant, middle name with or without period. Thanks for understanding.

* BIOS: the word "biography" means the story of a life, not just the story of the moment of someone's death. I wouldn't want myself or my loved ones defined by that, so I believe it's a matter of respect that if memorials include information about a person's cause of death or circumstances at death, they also include information about the much bigger story of their life. As such, I choose not to include information about deaths only, particularly when they are salacious, such as accidents, suicides, fires, executions, murders, etc. This goes also for died-penniless or "insane" or other misfortunes you would not see noted on a grave marker placed by a loving family member. I have made occasional exceptions but for the most part, I follow Find a Grave guidelines: "The bio should not look like a case file. Graphic bios are not acceptable."

* IF YOU DISABLE MESSAGES AND LEAVE NO EMAIL CONTACT INFO or other way to contact to you and I have questions about the edit you submit, I will decline the edit.

I'm happy to refer you to other Oregon resources that may help you fill in your ancestor's story.
