Bio and Links
Bio Photo I pursued old-fashioned genealogy in cemeteries, libraries, and courthouses for several decades and communicated with fellow genealogists by mail and telephone. Am now reveling in internet research, digital photography, and email. The latter make researching fifth cousins twice removed much more feasible, if not sensible.

Find A Grave is a wonderful resource, and I decided to say thank you for the work of others by entering records from local cemeteries. Many thanks to Ione Sweers whose notebooks on the cemeteries of Anderson County and Dorothy Kipper Lickteig whose abstracts of newspapers in ANDERSON COUNTY EARLY GLEANINGS and ANDERSON COUNTY KANSAS CEMETERY BOOK make this easier.

If I have created a memorial for one of your close relatives and you wish me to add information or link them to parents or spouses, just let me know. If you request a transfer, please follow Find A Grave guidelines.

You are welcome to use my photos in your family genealogies, post them on Ancestry, etc.

I have corrected the listing. I think this was my fault, fingers don't always work correctly :) Thank you for the updates!!

RE: Nancy Hatfield King
Yes, I was at Bethel Cemetery on the Saturday of Labor Day weekend in 2014. I spent about 3 hours there and took about 1200 photos, her photo was one of them. I have no knowledge of the other memorial, apparently one created in error.

RE: Vann/Van
No problem- I'm certainly With what you sent me and what I dug up as well, I'm leaning with the Vann spelling. Plus, after I transcribed thousands of names in that cemetery I very well could've made a mistake, too. Thanks for your help with the extra info, etc.

Normally I keep a memorial the way it's spelled by the way the marker is spelled, but as you pointed out, there are way too many records showing the contrary, so I've changed it and just made a notation in the bio section stating the discrepancy.

Thanks for pointing this out. Hopefully anyone researching this name will have an easier time finding these specific people.

Edith M. Cates Parker
Hello Anita, I'm searching for next of kin of Edith Parker. Edith's maiden name was Cates, who I believe is the daughter of Grace Spitzenberger from my blood line. I'm not sure if her and Clarence ever had children. I'm hopeful that someone in their family may of kept some of the records from all the work they had done. I met her in 1991 at their house in Garnett, Kansas and she was so sweet. If you could help me that would be great. Sincerely, Darren Spitzenberger

Boyd Family
I see that Samuel Boyd (born circa 1817, probably in Armagh), father of Elizabeth Boyd, is buried in Garnett, same as "my" Samuel Boyd and his family: James (d. 1862); Mary Jane (1862); Samuel (d. 1860); Thomas (d. 1861); and William (d. 1869). Samuel Boyd and wife Eliza lived in McHenry Co., Illinois in 1850 and were in Kansas by 1859. Samuel Boyd was one of the original 13 charter members of the Presbyterian church organized in Oct 1859 in Garnett. Samuel was one of the First Elders of the church. Is it possible these two Samuel Boyd are related?
