Bio

(Updated Dec 12, 2023... trying to keep to about a 3-month update cycle :) )

Note: I have been battling health issues since early this year (2023) and now, even in Dec, I'm still fighting. These aren't life-threatening but they are annoying :( Apologies for any delays in anything here.

Notice: I am in the process of transferring my non-relative/friend memorials to others. I have a few cemeteries left to transfer, just waiting for the Admins to get to them. If you are interested in any of mine (and they've already been transferred, you'll be asking someone else. The info below about where the lists came from still hold, so please make sure you read on. Thank you :)

Note: Please see the 'fine print' below and my 'My Personal Rules' about halfway down before contacting me for memorial issues / questions.

'The best laid plans of mice and men...'

The pandemic (and the response to it) have really caused a roadblock to my graving trips. Also, since my 'favorite' cemeteries are at least 50 miles away, and my wife and I share a car... yeah, I'm sure you get the idea :(

I had planned on getting up to the Atchison KS area for the past couple of years in order to knock out some of the photo request backlog... yeah, didn't happen :(

We'll have to see what happens in 2024... maybe, just maybe Mother Nature will be nice to me :)

**************************
Now for the nitty-gritty :D
**************************

The 'fine-print' :)

I am not a researcher, and I am not related to 99% of the people that I have listed in Atchison Co. KS. Anyone I _am_ related to is by marriage and still don't know a lot :)

Any information on a memorial, whether it's the bio, dates, marriages/children, were supplied by others.

Also, I didn't have management of a great number of memorials for a couple of years, and the contributor who did a lot of work on them has passed.

I'm stating this loud-and-clear: do not 'yell' at me for incorrect information on memorials.

If you find something that is wrong, please be civil and use the Edit system to send the corrections to me. If you have a question about something, feel free to ask nicely :)

Or, if it is something that is in the Bio, please just ASK me to correct it... don't just come at me and say, 'You have this wrong!'.

End of 'fine print'

Thank you :)

***************************************
The cemeteries that I usually work are:
***************************************

Atchison KS:

Mount Vernon (I have a book that lists the burials as of the mid-1980's and it lists quite a few plots, but there are (have been) quite a few errors and missing names.
---

Oak Hill (I have older copies of the cemetery maps that show the plot owner names, but not who's buried there)

If you are looking for someone who is buried in Oak Hill and there is no plot listed, you will need to contact the City of Atchison. They are the record keepers and who can give you plot information. See the cemetery page for contact info.
---

Rushville, MO:

Sugar Creek Cemetery (I have older copies of the cemetery maps as well as copies of their record books up to a few years ago)

Sugar Creek is mostly photographed (thank you Tom DeBerry) but it is possible that there are still some stones that were missed. I believe Tom goes back every so often, you can contact him and see if he can help with future requests.
---

Any newer burials probably haven't been done due to having no idea where their plots are (I no longer have access to the records).

If anyone happens to be going to Atchison, KS or over to Sugar Creek Cemetery in Rushville MO and wants some help finding graves, or wants to help knock out the backlog, I have some info (maps, books) on those areas. Let me know what you can do.

I can try to plan on going next year but...

Stay safe, don't do anything I wouldn't do, and be safe :)

************************
My Personal Rules:
************************

NOTE: Effective immediately, please follow the below instructions (if not followed I am not responsible for not doing what you ask... I am a photographer not a researcher):

Note: Please be patient with edits / corrections / emails to me. Between work, 'honey-do lists', and other assorted events, I am usually pretty busy.

Please be sure to send any corrections that can be done through the auto system (fill in the blanks in the Suggest an Edit screen). These edits will be done automatically after 21 days, if I don't get to them. This saves both of us time and aggravation :)

If you send me something specific (using the Suggest Any Other Correction link on the Edit screen), it may take me a little bit to get to it. Again, I'm not retired (yet :D)

---------------------
TRANSFERS:
---------------------

If you have any 'family' that you'd like transferred, please send me a request thru the
memorials that you would like transferred. If you have more than a handful, please send me the information in the first request. This sends me your Contributor ID so that I can transfer to the correct person.

Also, please make sure to tell me the Name _and_ the Memorial number, otherwise I may not get the correct memorial transferred.
---

One last thing, please: before you request anything (Edits, additions, transfer requests, etc.) make sure you review the Find A Grave FAQs (it's called Help in the bottom menus or has also been known as 'Help with Find A Grave or Find A Grave FAQS).

Thanks... continue on :)

--------------------------
PHOTO REQUESTS:
--------------------------

If anyone is requesting photos at either Mt. Vernon Cemetery or Oak Hill Cemeteries in Atchison, KS., you will need to contact the record keepers for those places in order to get a plot location if one is not on the memorial page. Please see the main cemetery pages for the contact info.

If you happen to see a question mark (?) for the Plot location (or I send you an Edit request to place a ? in the plot field), most likely I have not been able to find that person listed in the burial book I have and the ? is there to indicate that I have looked. It helps when looking at the list later.

--------------------------
EDITS / ADDITIONS:
--------------------------

If you wish to have items added to a memorial or corrections made, you will need to submit those requests through the Edit system. I will not do standard updates through messages or email.

If it is something for the Bio, please write exactly what you wish to be added. I apologize but I don't have time to 'edit' what to add or how to write it, nor should I be the one to have to do so.

Also, if you post (or want to) a photo of an obituary, I really would prefer it to be transcribed and submitted for the Bio through the EDIT system instead. Information in pictures cannot be searched when doing web searches (like Google or Yahoo). Just remember that obituaries are copywrited by someone and that you are assumed to have gotten permission to repost from the owner. This is not my responsibility.

If you send me something and ask if I can add something to the memorial, I will send back a response to Please submit as per my guidelines above which follow the Find A Grave guidelines. Not trying to sound sarcastic but this is a hobby for me and it's not my job to have to edit what you send to me.

MY SOURCES:
************************

If information in any of my memorials doesn't match what you think you know, please read the following and don't send me sarcastic remarks. These will be reported to the Admins.

Almost all of the memorials that I created in Atchison Co (KS) were done from cemetery lists already existing. These lists were created by the Atchison Co KS Historical Society (or the Atchison County Kansas Genealogy Society) back in the 1980's. Any responsibility for errors in the basic memorial information is to be put on those Societies.
