Bio and Links
Bio Photo If you know of any one memorialized here who served aboard the USS Melvin DD-680 in the Pacific Theatre during WW II, please let me know.

I'm a transplanted New Englander. My parents are Paul Oscar Avery(1921-2003) and Betty Wheaton Avery(1925-1992). My mom's and aunt's interest in family history was passed to me. I have been doing family history research for over 25 years, most of which has been in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Maine.

I am retired, and live in The Villages, Florida, and would be happy to find and photograph cemetery stones of your friends or family in the Sumter - Lake - Marion County area.

If you find some pictures or monuments I haven't included, I'd love to hear from you when you post them. And corrections or additions to my postings are welcome. All suggestions are responded to within 48 hours unless I am out of town. If you supply me with additional information, I will always research and double check it before posting it to a memorial. There is simply too much inaccurate information out there. Please do not use the edit feature for 17th century memorials. Consideration of updates to these memorials requires correspondence with specific documentation.

I have completed projects on all cemeteries in Hawley, Buckland, Colrain, and Charlemont, Massachusetts. And another in Sears Cemetery in Barnstable County. Current projects include the Jenks Family in Rhode Island, the Groton Avery Family, and Shelburne, Franklin Co, Mass cemeteries. If any of my entries connects to your ancestors, let me know.

Memorials I have added in the last 7 days.
Memorials I have added in the last 30 days.
If I have not added any memorials in the last 30 days, I am very likely dead... contact Find A Grave.

Please use the EDIT button on the memorial to initiate correspondence and recommend updates. I am no longer able to respond to emails that do not provide quick and easy access to the memorial in question. Also, if your e-mail is not provided on your profile page, I won't be able to respond to you if a response is needed. The public messages are not appropriate for back and forth discussion. And, if you have no email, I will not process edits until you provide source data.

There are so many "orphan" memorials here on Find-A-Grave, many of which have been posted en masse and then forgotten. So many need identification and linking so we know who they were! After posting a memorial, please take the time to research, identify, and link the memorial properly..... it will go along way toward further establishing the credibility of this site.

Regarding transfers outside guidelines..... I will consider transfer to those who have a proven track record of collaboration on FindAGrave.

Thanks, Kevin for pointing out the error I made on my 3rd Great-Grandmother's memorial. I made it in 2005! Are you related to her also?

Is she a relative of yours and do you know what became of her children George and Lawrence? I have photographs of them that might interest their living relatives.

William Carpenter son of Richard Carpenter and Alice Knight Carpenter married 8/07/ 1603
The New England Historical and Genealogical Society has published the research of Eugene Zubrinsky, in the New England Historical and Genealogical Register Journals and Periodicals. Zubrinsky has earned the credential of Fellow of the American Society of Genealogists (FASG). He is the foremost authority on the Carpenter family. In his publication for the Carpenters' Encyclopedia of Carpenters,

He states:" overzealous researchers have converted this item into the now frequently seen (online) assertions that Richard and Susanna (Trevelian) Carpenter were Providence William's parents and that Richard died at the Arnolds' home of Ilchester, Somerset, in 1625. Trevelian's husband, however, died at Loxhore, Devon, in 1627 and left neither a son William nor a daughter Frideswide (Charles William Boase, ed., _Registrum Collegii Exoniensis: Register of . . . Exeter College, Oxford_ [Oxford, 1894], 86; Frederick Brown, _Abstracts of Somersetshire Wills, etc._, Frederick Arthur Crisp, transcriber, 6 vols. [London, 1887-90], 2:109-10). The Richard Carpenter buried at Amesbury, 21 September 1625, is far more likely to have been Providence William's father than one said to have died at Ilchester that year (see Amesbury Parish Register, vol. 1, unpaged; Daniel Hoogland Carpenter, _History and Genealogy of the Carpenter Family in America, from the Settlement at Providence, R.I., 1637-1901_ [Jamaica, N.Y., 1901], 8n).

Rachel (Holton) Strong Bradley
Hi Kevin,

I found the source of Rachel's possible birth date of ca. 1650 in "America Ancestors and Cousins of The Princess of Wales" by Gary Boyd Roberts and William Addams Reitwiesner. Page 28. (item 16). I met Gary Boyd Roberts at the Family History Library in the 2000s in Salt Lake City, Utah and purchased my copy from him personally. Gary was President of the New England Genealogical Historical Society at the time.

RE: Rachel (Holton) Strong Bradley
Greetings Kevin,

I looked through my records and online for about an hour. I believe this information was found in Thomas Strong's own volume of Strong Family History. I made copies of this back in the 1990s and I can't put my hands on it right now. I found 5 large Strong Volumes in the Dallas Library on the Genealogy floor. This volume also proudly listed in the front pages that Thomas Strong and Rachel Holton were the ancestors of HRH Diana Frances Spencer...
We had a group of 4 cousins who viewed the information before entering onto our Pedigree chart for all to copy. I had her birth as 1645 at first then also wrote 1650 from a different source. I am telling you this, not as my proof, but in case you have more time than I to look it up with this information. I will continue to look for my exact source, but I have several appointments today.
Thank you.
You and I used to communicate a few years ago. I sponsor Rachel's memorial.

Newell Burying Ground
Hi Kevin
I live about 5 miles from Newell Burying Ground I gave the list of names to the man with all the records. He got back to me and the 3 graves you are looking for are not in his records. I reported a problem on Fanny Draper. But I though I would send you a message before I report a problem on the others. Let me know what you want to do.
