gravestone for CHECK
sorry for the 2 previous message but had a computer hiccup while typing this message and those 2messages were the result.....anyways, the reason for this message is to ask for your permission to copy and post a gravestone photo you took of one of my relatives; Henry Check (Gate of Heaven Cemetery, EP, RI)? If you agree, all postings by me will give credit to you. Thank you in advance.

Thanks for bringing the correction to my attention and you are right the death year is 1996 not 2006 so the headstone you saw was the right one. Thanks for all you do to

Corection to my post re: Monte Thomas
(Correction in spelling of Monte Thomas' wife in this re-post from BeDford to BENFORD.

At long last I've found my roommate and best Army buddy, 2nd lieutenant in Park Hill cemetery, Columbus, Georgia. In March 1967, he was a platoon leader in Vietnam, killed in action. I knew he is the kind who would be doing something heroic, ignoring his own safety

Not long ago, I received a newspaper clipping from another person who knew Monte and Monte's wife, Suzanne Benford Thomas mailed him a local area newspaper clipping of the Fort Benning deputy post commander awarding the Silver Star for Heroism posthumously to her on behalf of Monte. I'm so sad but was inspired to learn he had crawled to each of three of his men who were pinned down to rescue them. After saving their lives, he crawled back to pinpoint the exact location of the enemy when he was killed.

If anyone has any information on Suzanne's whereabouts or a reference to his family (he was from Alto, CA, and survived by favorites - an uncle and aunt. Any help would be appreciated on behalf of this hero. -Sonny Craven, Colonel, US Army, Ret.
