Bio and Links
Bio Photo My home town is Westport, Co Mayo, Ireland.
I joined FAG while researching my Ancestors who emigrated to Chicago.

I have realised my dream - travelled to Chicago and visited 3 of the graveyards where my Ancestors are buried.

Most of my Memorials/Cemeteries are in Ireland. If you find a relative and wish to add/change information, please feel free to contact me.

Most of my Memorials have Graveshots. I flower all my Memorials and link them with relative's. Ones that may not have Graveshots are my own relatives where I have not located their resting spot, although I know the Cemetery.

I am happy to transfer Memorials to Family Members, however my photographs are copyright and I would like to be notified should anyone require a copy of same.

Thank You to Jim and Tammy who have helped me find the resting place of my Lavelle Family in NY.

In the early part of 2012 I set up the Mayo Genealogy Group in Castlebar, we have monthly meetings in the National Museum of Country Life, Turlough.
We have set up a Facebook Page, if you would like to join and post queries about your Mayo Ancestors check out our page.

Edward Matthew Joyce
Hi Dympna-

Edward Matthew Joyce was my paternal grandfather. I never met him as he passed away when my father was only 12 years old. My fathers given name was Edward Malone Joyce, but he always went by Edward Matthew. He had three brothers - Patrick (deceased), William (deceased) and James (living in Ohio).
My paternal grandmother was Isabel (Malone) Joyce and we always called her "Gammy." She lived in Toledo after my grandfather died.

RE: Meelick Cemetery
Hello and thank you for your response. I thought you might know, as a local person, whether it is correct to refer to one cemetery section as Meelick and the part across the street as Meelick (Old), and if this is used consistently. If I request that the memorials be merged, Find A Grave will need that information I think. I would have called the entire place by the same name. Thanks again and sorry for the duplicate message.

Meelick Cemetery vs. Old Meelick
Greetings! I live in USA but recently traveled to County Mayo to visit kinfolk both living and departed. I created some memorials for Meelick Cemetery and loaded photos. Some of these have been duplicated and placed in Meelick (Old) Graveyard. I want to make this all correct. Do you know if one side of the road is known locally as the "old" part and the other side the new part? At this point I may need to ask the good Find a Grave folks to merge the memorials. See memorials for Patrick Muldowney, died 1920, in both Meelick Cemetery and Meelick (old) Graveyard and you will see what I mean. Of course they do refer to the same person. Thank you for any clues! The ones I created are indeed in the older part (that side of the road) but not in the very old part (behind the tower). What to do?

RE: Re Needham & Fadden, Westport
Yes, I am member of Mayo site on FB.....My McFadden's came over during the 1850s, straight to Joliet, Illinois. Years ago wrote to Mayo Government Genealogy office and they were able to furnish me with marriage bands and baptism of first child...but advise I would be wasting money to pursue further as not many records before 1840s and especially since they were not land owners....Did find a brother of my gr. grands who came over before them.......and have made a couple of DNA connections thru Ancestry.com......a few months ago I did post my line on FB Mayo site.....as you said, there are other McFaddens on there and so far we haven't connected....thanks for the offer....

Moran family
Hello Dympna, My Great Grandfather, Thomas Moran (d. November 27,1910) is buried in the family vault in the Turlough Cemetery. I am sure there are many other family members buried there too. He had quite a few sons and daughters. I am visiting Ireland this summer and hope to visit the graves. I'm just beginning to research this and it is a lot harder than I thought! Can you help in any way?
Thank you, Judy Roberts

O Toole family marker Ballinrobe
Good afternoon Dympna,

First THANK YOU so much for your help on the FaceBook group. Because of it I have traced and documented the family history for Thomas Toole (52071142) and his wife Mary McDermott nee Toole (52071243) and their 10 children.

I would like to submit updates to the 5 memorials in Ballinrobe old section you created but I have a question. All official records have their names as Toole. The stone says O Toole per a photo on IrishGravyards. What is the right protocol? Of course the children who emigrated to the US became O'Toole.

Thank you for any insight.

Margaret Heneghan & Annie ' Heneghan' Horan
HI Dympna
Many thanks for providing this information. I love researching my ancestors, but I'm a little confused and wonder if you can assist. Can you please advise of all the writing on the above headstone as I believe both are my grandfathers sisters.

I believe Edward Heneghan who returned from New York USA erected a headstone for his mother....I believe this was detailed on the headstone.... have you come across it....???

The Heneghan family I am looking for are from Partry, Michael and Bridget (nee Mulchrone) had 12 children. I know a few of them went to America in the early 1900's. My Grand Father Mark came to the uk around 1915-20 and married my grandmother, unfortunately I never met either grandparents, so only got information from my mothers.

Many thanks in advance.
Yours sincerely
Elaine

RE: Re: Pilgrims's Graves
Im hoping to go to Ireland in about 5 years. Its on my bucket list. My ancestors came from Westport /Gothbran area so I'd like to visit there. My grandpa had a special devotion to Mary and visited many of her shrines. I still have a rosary that he bought from Knock. I will be making a stop at Knock if I get to Ireland.
