I have been working on genealogy for about 25 years. I just found out about Find A Grave a few months ago. What a handy tool this is. I enjoy going around to different cemeteries looking at all the old headstones, and taking pictures for people who might not every see the headstonesof there ancestors if someone didn't take pictures for them.|
If anyone finds an error, please let me know and I will correct it. Also anyone who would like to add something, I can also do that for you.
For over 15 years I have been seriously researching my Gibbons family, with a beginning origin in South Carolina (Joseph Franklin Gibbons 1839 and still searching for information prior to that), also researching the Paris family (Rhoda Catherine Paris) from Spartanburg, South Carolina and the Giles families from that area.
From there the search has taken me into Harlan and Bell Counties in Kentucky, and surrounding counties in VA & TN, later on to Rockcastle and Lincoln Counties in KY also. In KY families that connect with our Gibbons are: Fee's, Green, Burkhart, Hensley, Wynn, Wilson and more.
My grandfather Andrew Jackson Gibbons was born in SC, was raised and married Margaret Fee in Harlan County KY. They raised their family in Lee Co. VA. Andrew Jackson Gibbons brothers are, James Giles, John Giles, Spurgeon Gibbons, Willie Gibbons, Campbell Gibbons, Frank Gibbons II and Nathan Gibbons. No known sisters.
If anyone has information of any of these families I would be very appreciative of anything you are willing to share.
I am also working on a register for Rose Hill Cemetery in Robinson, Kansas.

Here is something to consider when adding a woman who has been married multiple times. If you look for the person on the death certificates it will be the last name that she died under and none of the previous husbands names will be connected to her so that is her official name at death. In this case it was Galbraith. You can still put her in the cemetery under Galbraith and next to her first husband and by connecting her to her first husband you have made the Smith connection. Now consider a woman who has been married 3-4 times and I've seen some of those, what name do you use as the surname? Do you put all four names in as the surname. If so how does someone find the person. In this case I searched the Purdin Cemetery for both Smith and Galbraith and didn't find her under either name. It wasn't until I checked out her husband and found that you had added her as Smith-Galbraith. I really doubt that she ever used the surname Smith-Galbraith so using that in Findagrave or any place else can be misleading. In some cases the woman doesn't even want to be connected to previous spouses. Just something to think about when entering women with multiple spouses.
Hi Vernon. I am the sister in law to Ralph E. Clark buried at Memorial Park Cemetery in St. joseph Missouri. His wife Dianna L. Clark was my sister. She passed 16 days before he did. On find a grave it's listed his date of birth as January 27th. His birthday is actuall January 23rd. Is there any way you can edit this? It's not a big deal, but was just curious. My email is email@example.com if you need to get ahold of me. Thank you and a woman named Theresa Hernandez White for doing a wonderful job on both my sister and brother in laws fund a grave page.

Can you transfer My father's memorial to me so that I can manage him along with the rest of my family?

The obituary of Virl Joseph Gitthens has burial in Osborn Evergreen Cemetery, but you listed it on Find A Grave as Braymer. It should be Osborn Evergreen Cemetery, Osborn, Clinton County, MO. Also, his wife, Donna Marie McQueen Gitthens has burial listed on Find A Grave as "unknown". It should be the same as Virl's. Please make these changes. Thanks!

No problem, I hadn't caught that. I have sent several edits on various memorials and really have no clue now who this one is for!
We can do one of two things to try and avoid the duplication:
You can send an edit to the other personal stating the rules about pre-death memorials, etc. and ask them to delete theirs.
Or, let me know Kathryn's full name, memorial number and cemetery and I will contact them.
Either way is fine with me and we'll wish us luck in getting the problem solved!
