RE: DYER DAYTON STANLEY
Hi Samantha, Thank you for the informative email.
I am Dyer's great, great, great grandson. In our line, family history has been collected for a long time. The spelling of Standley was probably his choice since his father and grandfather also used that spelling. Hard to know why some used Stanley and others Standley but I have documents spelled both ways for the same individuals in several cases.
I have no idea why those markers are in Schenectady but would love to find out. I also feel it would be nice if they returned to the grave site. I don't know law for such matters but Elijah, his wife Ann and Albert are known to be buried at the Stanley schoolhouse site which was a private residence when I was there in 1997.
I know where it is on the map.
Or possibly, and this is pure speculation by me, their graves and markers were moved for some reason ??
I looked for all of those markers in 1994 and again in 1997 but to no avail. My great Aunt Emma visited NY in 1924 and said they were there along with Dyer's marker being near route 33 on a farm owned then by a Thomas Cunningham. You had to cross a small creek to get to the site. She also recorded a poem from his marker but she didn't record his name as Date. Perhaps that was his nickname which he went by ?? Emma met and knew other relatives of the area - Otsego county, etc.
She wrote a family history which has been scanned and kept by the Family History Center and is or was on their website www.familysearch.org
Perhaps a previous owner of 48 Washington Avenue had some connection to Otsego county and such ??

Would it be possible for you to send me digital photos of the markers ?? Also front and back in case there is something on the back ??

Again, thank you for contacting me. I am most definitely interested and you can ask me whatever you want to if it will help you.

Sincerely, Werner A. Stanley 09-18-2017

Hoerning
Thanks for adding that info on George Hoerning. I am not sure if he was adopted or legally changed his last name when he became an adult. I am leaning towards a legal change as his two brothers remained Werner.

Hello Samantha, I submitted edit requests to add his full dates of birth and death and by Find A Grave e-mail edit, to add his Civil War unit info to the Bio Section. The sources were his military pension record, census records and family records. Thanks for having created his memorial. Paul Turner
