My grandmother, Wanda Zirkle Jilka, and great-aunt, Veda Zirkle Vickery, compiled a book commonly referred to as "The Red Book," "Zirkle Branches 1725-1978, Yesteryears and Yesterdays." There are several copies for sale if anyone is interested. It mainly outlines the history of two Zirkle/Zerkel branches which left VA, went to OH, then settled in Richland, Shawnee Co, KS.

"Life is not separate from death. It only looks that way." Blackfoot Quote

"A Visit to the Gravesite"

Dear Ancestor,
Your Tombstone stands among the rest,
Neglected and alone.
The name and dates are chiseled here,
On polished marbled stone.
It reaches out to all who care,
Though it is too late to mourn.

You did not know that I exist,
You died and I was born.
Yet each of us are cells of you,
In flesh and blood and bone.
Our blood contracts and beats a pulse
Entirely not our own.

Dear Ancestor, the place you filled
One hundred years ago,
I wonder if you could have known,
Would spread among the ones you left
In all the seeds you've sown.
I wonder how you lived and loved?
I wonder if you ever knew?
That someday I would find you in this spot,
And come to visit you?

Dear Becky:

Just wanted to let you know how impressed I am w/ the memorial you created for my generational Great-Grandfather Josiah Cooke. You are very methodical; that's so important in genealogy.

God bless,

Thank you for the help. I believe that I have the Obits and photos attached. I also deleted the memorials I made. If I need to do anything else, please let me know. Thanks again.

I am so new to doing this that I really don't understand a lot of it. I am afraid I'm going to mess something up. LOL. Just know that I am thankful for those of you that give of your time to add to this website. It is very helpful

RE: Doane
My pleasure - thank you for the work you have done.
I am researching the SMITH family - noticed the following "The Schmidt family are of German origin and part of the German loyalist immigration that came to the US in the 1700's. The Smiths, along with other families such as the Books, the Doans, the Snivelys and the Slaghts (or Slack), appear to have come from Philadelphia, stopping in New York State and then moving in the early 1800's to the Niagara Peninsula."
I found and attached photos for the following:

I have been researching my family and I believe that Joshua Mills Clevenger (you have the number 182569352, mine is 184017644) was buried in Mount Hope in Champaign Ill. and not Woodlawn? I'm not for sure but I went there and took pictures of his and his wife's (Edith Belle Larrison) headstones. She died before him and was buried for awhile in Horton Kansas but then was moved to lay beside him in Mount Hope. I would like to clear up any misunderstanding that I have. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks, Becky, for his death notice. I presume you were researching your DOANE/DOAN name when you stumbled across this notice. His memorial page has been updated with the death notice and I added a notation re: discrepancy in his age and surname variant. I also noted his wife died on the same day. Thanks for all you do for F-A-G!!

RE: Carnines
Thanks, Becky. Any information is helpful! I found a few hints in the names listed. Wouldlove to find an obit for Mary Audelfinia Pierson Wilcox, her family apparently arrived here from Sweden but I can find no good info?
