RE: Roy and Clara Henderson Winkler
You are welcome. I have photo of Uncle Roy that I put on line once I regain access to my house. We had fire/smoke damage and are temporarily displaceed. Hope to be back in house before Thanksgiving. Ruth (P.S. photo has the Ropesville Gin in background)

RE: Roy and Clara Henderson Winkler
The 1930 census you found is the right one for my Great Uncle Roy and his wife, Clara (nee Henderson) Winkler. The children John and Sallye listed in that census record are believed to have been "foster" children, possibly only staying with Roy and Clara temporarily while their parents established a household somewhere else. My mom, Helen Ruth Winkler, and her younger sister Dorothy grew up in their paternal grandmother, Martha Cook Winkler's household. Their uncles, including Roy Winkler, were more like older brothers than uncles. Aunt Clara sewed (from flour sacks) every dress my mom and her sister Dorothy owned during their youth. Aunt Clara made my mom’s wedding dress. Aunt Clara and Uncle Roy conspired to help my parents keep their pending wedding a secret. After Mom and Dad were married, it was Uncle Roy who broke the news to family members and friends. When the 1930 census was 1st released in the late 1990's, I queried my mom and her sister Dorothy about the children in Uncle Roy's and Aunt Clara's household. Neither Momma nor Dorothy could recall them and said they had to be children of Aunt Clara’s relatives who lived with them a few weeks while getting ready to move out of state, possibly to California. I asked other family members; no one had any knowledge of them. The only “natural” children of Uncle Roy and Aunt Clara were an infant that was born/died in 1929 - see Find A Grave Memorial# 87493811 and Thurman. The infant bled to death from an improperly tied umbilical cord. My mother and Dorothy both think that the children in the 1930 household probably belonged to some of Aunt Clara's Henderson relatives and were staying with Uncle Roy and Aunt Clara while the parents were sitting up household in California or ?????. Aunt Clara's family wanted nothing to do with the Winkler’s so there was always tension between the two families. When Aunt Clara died, Thurman was terminally sick with cancer. He wanted to bury her next to Uncle Roy, but Aunt Clara's relatives insisted she be buried in Fannin County near her family. Thurman died soon thereafter. No one purchased Aunt Clara a tombstone so around 1998 my mom purchased a small tombstone to mark Aunt Clark's grave. The tombstone was removed; my mom hastily got a court order to force replacement of the tombstone. Bottom line, I have no idea who those two children were. They were not Roy and Clara's natural children. No one living on Winkler side of family has any memory of who they were or why they were enumerated in Roy and Clara’s 1930 household. The Henderson family members I contacted back in the late 1990's refused to talk with me so ......

Hi! I see that you left a flower on several of the Petty memorials. Are you related to the Petty family? This particular memorial is my grandmother's. I was just curious! :) Thanks! Have a great day!

Alyne Lucille Buchanan Cook
Alyne Lucille Buchanan Cook outlived 3 husbands: Everett Franklin Lookadoo, Jimmie Bass, and Mr. Cook. I sent in a separate suggestion for that, just haven't been updated yet. However, some other additions and changes have been made. Anyway, wanted to let you know if you were not aware. (see memorial# 13453420) Sincerely, Lyn

RE: Linda Ruth Colberg
Hi T.W.

Thank you for your response. That is interesting about the surname relation. My mom has five siblings whom are children of James Wallace Solesbee I. My mom had a different father. I think I have the correct James Wallace Solesbee, but no one appears to know his birth dates or death dates. All I know is that he was born in Kings Mountain, NC, from my Uncle's birth certificate. Do you have any further information on him that I could verify the correct James Wallace Solesbee? All my mom remembers is that he had a sister named Polly whom lived in Chicago in the 60s-70s.

Thank you!

RE: Sosebee/Turner Connection
Thank you! that got me a couple steps in the right direction. I had names for William Thomas, but his wife was spelled wrong. I knew my grandpa had 2 half siblings, but wasn't sure why. I've got to make a call tomorrow. There is a chance I've actually found his tombstone.

Do you know anything about the death of Thomas Semore Sosebee? That would be Girlie's father. There is a story involving an ambush that killed him and other family members. An Uncle has told me he does remember seeing a vehicle in an field that was full of bullet holes.

Sosebee/Turner Connection
I am the granddaughter of Clyde Turner and Girlie Sosebee. I have added photos of them to their posting and wondered if you had any information you could share on either of them. We are attempting to trace the Turner side.
