Bio and Links
Bio Photo This work is dedicated to my friend Carroll Pitman 1926- 2009. He showed me South Carolina's history and it's people in ways I never could have imagined. Like sturdy fabric our families are woven together. I feel blessed to have known him and worked with him.
I am descended from William Crain - Shadrick Crain - Andrew Jackson Crain - Augustus G. Crain - Jefferson R. Crain - (Living) and myself. Others names Sherman (NY, CO) Whitaker (NC), Puett (NC),Bruce(SC), Duenweg (IN), Braymer (NY), Howard (SC), Johnson (IN), Allen (IN), Yancey and Zickefoose (Iowa +Va)... States most active in - SC, NC, GA, AL, CO, NY, MO, IN, IL, VA and Iowa.
Photos I have shared are copyrighted and are not to be published with out my written permission. Some photos I have lovingly shared and articles, that are in the possession of my family are now being used without recognition of the source.
Genealogy is based on fact. A connection must be made to make it acurate and true. The sources are what make it so. History isn't always pretty, though we may wish it so. But all of the tree, good and bad and sad makes a beautiful quilt. Full of character. It is not hard to love the quilt.
Mother of one and grandmother of two. Lover of all kinds of music and will never stop dancing.
One thing I learned from Carroll, is that if not properly sourced genealogy is nothing but a tale. It is a researcher's responsibility to find the truth. I would appreciate that if you wish to use the photos I have given you or photos and data from my site that you note the source.
I had two reasons for learning my family history. Both of my grandfather's, Jefferson Rado Crain and Frederick Sherman, died on my birthday. I met them each only once. I am the youngest girl in the photo. Second, my health has always been bad and in this search I have found out why. I got double whammed on both sides of the maternal tree. Our history is so important.

Davis Crain #51026016
Hello: I was at the Bethelehem Cemetery in Oconee, SC last week and made some picture of the headstones. I saw where you had left flowers for Davis Crain #51026016. I was wondering if you know if Jeanette "Nettie Bottoms #51027054 (married John Bottoms); Mary Ada Crane Fretwell #51026126 (married Joseph Fretwell) these two ladies are the daughters of Davis Crain. They are all buried next to each other. Another lady I thought might also be their daughter is Elizabeth Duncan who is also buried close.
The reason for my question is I am trying to find out if Davis Crain and his wife had a daughter named Julia Etta Crain.
Any help would be appreciated.

RE: Jeanie G. Weston
Thank you for the information on Jeanie. I have made changes on her memorial, after doing searches on both, Jeanie Dower and Jeanie Ptolemy.

The edits as Dower were done before I started checking other contributors suggestions. However, I went through 950 out of 2887 accepted suggestions to find who did send this edit. It was suggested in 2015 by Jim Childers # 47455615. His Jeanie Weston I discovered this morning was married to John H. Weston and they were living in Minnesota not Colorado.

Is she in your family line?

Thanks again.

I was looking on line and saw you added parents names for my grandmother. Was wondering how you got that information. I added her photo with my mom sitting on her lap. The grave is out of Lompoc, Ca, which comes up in Santa Barbra, Ca.

RE: Dewey Webb Copeland
P Sherman:
I have posted a family photo on Dewey Webb Copeland's page (with Margaret's mother and her siblings etc) Did you ever get a picture of him? We corresponded some last year when you first inquired if I had one. I had given you some contact info for his surviving daughters.

RE: Callie P. Scoggins Belflower
I spoke with my Grandmother's son who is now in his 80's and he doesn't remember Cordelia Coffey Scoggins mother's name. He did say that several of the "Coffey" family is buried in Idabel, Oklahoma at a cemetery called Forrest Hill. To the best of his knowledge several lived in Garvin Oklahoma, which is in that general area. I looked in Forrest Hill Cemetery and found no one named William Rice Coffey, but did find Cordelia Scoggins. Sorry I'm not of much help, but will check with my Grandmothers oldest daughter and see if she might remember her Great Grandmother's maiden name.

RE: Mamie/Marnia DeVault Prichett
Hello P.Sherman,
I deleted the original photo to save room on my computer. I tried blowing up the photo from find a grave but since it was already resized to fit there guidelines it made the photo worse. Thanks for finding out when and where she died. I tried but could not find nothing. If her and her family is kin to you let me know and i would transfer them to you. F. Hylton
